00:00...in terms of U.S. military involvement.
00:02What is the plan for that?
00:04How can you overcome that and have this kind of more tough approach that you're describing?
00:08Yeah, the case of Mexico, it's an even graver challenge because of the size of the country,
00:13because of the power of the cartels that are there.
00:15I don't think it's any mystery to anybody that there are territories,
00:19vast territories in Mexico that are not governed by the state.
00:21They are controlled by these narco-terrorist organizations.
00:23Now, I will say this, in fairness, the Mexicans have done more than they've ever done before
00:27to go after these groups, but it is still not nearly enough.
00:30They know that, we've expressed that to them, and we hope to work cooperatively with them to do more,
00:35because at the end, the head of the snake are these cartels in Mexico,
00:39and they are a threat to the Mexican state, and the people of Mexico will tell you that.
00:42The number one issue in Mexico, poll after poll shows, is security.
00:46Political candidates are routinely assassinated in Mexico.
00:49Judges routinely assassinated.
00:51Journalists who report on the cartels routinely assassinated by these groups.
00:55So these groups pose an enormous threat right on our border.
00:57They have drones now.
00:58They're using drones to try to traffic drugs and people across the border.
01:02These groups are very dangerous.
01:03They're very well-financed.
01:04They need to be confronted.
01:05Our hope and our intent is to do it in partnership with Mexico.
01:08That's the ideal.
01:09But eventually, that threat will have to be confronted one way or the other.
01:13But our hope is to do it cooperatively with Mexican authorities.
01:15Thank you, Secretary.
01:17Thank you.
01:17Thank you.
