00:00Influencers are kinda ruining the US Open.
00:03Social media personalities dying to go viral for knockin' back honey deuces have been plaguing the Open this year.
00:09On Thursday, the USTA had to issue a public notice on photography and etiquette after this nonsense went down during
00:15a first round match.
00:23The chair umpire had to actually pause the match to admonish the content creators and now flash photography and quote,
00:30any other lighting is banned during play.
00:33The lighting referred to there is no doubt in reference to glowing ring lights like this one.
00:37The USTA told the Post that these instances are infrequent and likened it to when the ump stops play to
00:43quiet a particularly noisy crowd.
00:45But that's not all. The two women behind the social media account The VIP List had their media credentials stripped
00:50before they even got to see a single serve because they posted images of those credentials online.
00:55Rather than showing any respect for the rules, one of them said this.
00:58It was just taken away like that just cause we wanted to show how hot we looked in our credentials.
01:04Tragic.
01:05Players seem split. Jess Pagula said that she can appreciate one side of the influencers but called it a bit
01:10disrespectful.
01:11But Daniil Medvedev thinks there's more upside than downside.
01:15Major brands like Moet and Shandon and Adidas are hosting influencers at the tournament and the USTA issued roughly 100
01:21credentials to media influencers this year.
01:23That's up nearly double compared to last year.
