00:22Good question. The GAN Suppression Force is a multinational force that has been authorised by the UN Security Council by
00:32the 2793 resolution of the Security Council since October, sorry, the 30th, September, 2023.
00:43The GAN Suppression Force is mandated to naturalise, deter, and degrade the gangs that are harming the Haitian population.
01:00The GAN Suppression Force is, again, mandated by the UN Security Council, but it's not a UN peacekeeping mission.
01:09It's completely different. We have a ceiling of 5,500 troops authorised by the Security Council, and we also have
01:2150 personnel, civilian personnel, that support the special representative who leads the GAN Suppression Force.
01:31What is the reception in Haiti regarding this mission? Because it's not the first time that Haiti has some sort
01:39of group or mission trying to fight the gangs and all of the violence that that country is living.
01:45What do you think and what has been the experience so far?
01:52This is a very interesting question, and thank you for asking. It is true, and we are very much aware
02:01that the GAN Suppression Force is the 15th mission in Haiti since the early 1990s.
02:11The Haitian population are still expecting to see, and they have confidence that every mission that comes will help them
02:23get the security they have been desired from the success, but also from what didn't work from the past mission.
02:37And the GAN Suppression Force is trying and is expecting to conduct its mission and to be successful, at least
02:47to achieve its intended goals within the coming few years.
02:54And our benchmarks is that the end state should be in September 2028 to have degraded the gangs to the
03:03level that the national police forces can regain their power and they can control the security in Haiti.
