00:02Lethbridge Polytechnic opens its own primary care paramedic program that varies from other paramedic courses available in Alberta or across
00:10Canada.
00:11Polytechnic student Carson Ogloff believes this is his pathway in becoming an exceptional primary care paramedic.
00:17I've always kind of loved this stuff. We have real-time instructors that aren't just instructors.
00:21They're active personnel that come in and teach us how we're doing it in the real world instead of how
00:26they did it back in their day.
00:27And all around, great school, great resources, great people.
00:30Instructor Edward Botaika acknowledges the polytechnic's value of the program.
00:34This program provides a unique approach that sets it apart from other paramedic courses.
00:39In Alberta specifically, we have a much larger scope of practice.
00:43So if you come to Alberta to take your training, you'll be doing more advanced skills than you could be
00:48in other places.
00:49Now how Lethbridge differs from the rest of the province,
00:52One of the ways is that we have two fully stocked ambulances that we're able to drive around here around
00:57the campus,
00:58and we're able to perform different skills.
01:01Ogloff appreciates being taught with real-time, relevant information.
01:04This has a significant impact on him, which is the most rewarding part of the program.
01:09If people like me, young people getting started in the field, are being taught the right way to do it
01:13from the get-go,
01:14The more of us in the system, if they can train us while we're getting started,
01:20it's almost like an infection spreading, but in a good way.
01:24If you can teach us the right way to do it, as we're working our way into the medical system,
01:28we're going to be seeing other people doing it wrong and be able to help them.
01:31This entry-level medical program is not only shaping future paramedics,
01:35but also making a lasting impact on Lethbridge community they will serve.
