00:00Do you share any of the concerns of Secretary Driscoll and several Republican lawmakers about the current state of the
00:08Army,
00:09specifically about the departure of so many generals and other top officials?
00:14Well, first of all, look, Dan is obviously a very good friend of mine. I think he was a great
00:17secretary of the Army.
00:18Pete is also a very good friend of mine, and I think he's an amazing secretary of war.
00:22And, you know, fundamentally, where I look, there are a lot of issues where I agree with Pete on.
00:28The issue where I'm in the most strident agreement with Pete is that we needed to have a culture shift
00:34at the Department of War.
00:35We have to ask ourselves some very difficult questions, and it has nothing to do, I want to be clear,
00:40this has nothing to do with the amazing troops that we have, the amazing military officers, non-commissioned officers, and
00:46enlisted personnel that we have.
00:48But America has fought a lot of wars since I've been alive, 42 years.
00:52And we have won almost none of them until Donald J. Trump became the president of the United States.
00:58What does that say about the culture of military leadership, the way that we did planning?
01:03And what does it also say, frankly, about the political leadership that we've had in the White House,
01:08at the Department of War for 40 years of, frankly, military misadventures?
