00:12This is a great day. We have been waiting for this and many people for years to be able to
00:17have a vote on whether we continue these accession negotiations. This has been a tight race, extremely exciting, but I
00:24also want to say that it's been joyous to see how many people have been active in this debate.
00:29It's lifted discussions about the EU, about Iceland's place in the world, about our general geopolitical situation and status to
00:37a higher level. So whatever comes out of this, I'm going to be happy with the results.
00:41We still are part of the EEA and even if this is a yes, we will be part of the
00:45EEA because we'll have to see what a negotiation or accession deal looks like. So the process will be long
00:52if it's a yes, but we will be fine also if it's a no.
00:54It's an emotional matter as well, but I think Icelanders have done a good job. We've talked about things that
01:00we haven't talked about before. We'll come stronger out of this than into us.
01:03I'm giving the Icelandic people more choice, more choices in this volatile world we are now living in. And in
01:09the end, the final say and call will always be in the hands of our people, the Icelandic nation.
01:16For me, it's enough just the majority. Actually, it gives us a stronger position when we are going to negotiate
01:22with the European Union. They better get us a good deal, you know.
