Deadlocked jurors tasked with deciding the fate of Lindsay Clancy were given a last-ditch instruction by the judge, who is still hoping they reach a verdict. The jury said it was still deadlocked Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 2, after about four days of deliberations. It was the second time jurors reported they were unable to reach a unanimous verdict, after first doing so on Tuesday.

00:00Members of the jury, I've got your question, a question, or probably more of a statement than a question,
00:06saying after much deliberation, we are still unable to come to a unanimous decision.
00:12Now, based on that, I'm going to give you another instruction, all right?
00:18And it's this.
00:20Our Constitution and laws provide that in a criminal case,
00:24the principal way for deciding questions of fact is by the verdict of a jury.
00:30In most cases, perhaps strictly speaking in all cases, absolute certainty cannot be attained, nor is it expected.
00:38The verdict to which a juror agrees must be their own, the result of their own convictions,
00:44and not a mere acquiescence in the conclusions of their fellow jurors.
00:49Yet, in order to bring 12 minds to a unanimous result,
00:53you must examine the questions submitted to you with candor and with proper regard and deference and respect to the
01:01opinions of each other.
01:03There is no reason to suppose that the case will ever be submitted to 12 persons more intelligent,
01:10more impartial, or more competent to decide it, or that more or clearer evidence will be produced.
01:18I'll see you next time.
