00:00China has warned of consequences over Taiwan's presence at the annual Pacific Islands Forum in Palau.
00:07This comes after Taiwan's foreign minister was invited to the forum's meetings and side events,
00:12despite Taiwan not being a formal dialogue partner.
00:19China's Special Envoy Qianbo said there would be consequences, but stopped short of saying what those would be.
00:27There will always be consequences. I mean, this is objected by all.
00:34So this should not have happened. So we think it's very inappropriate to do so.
00:41No, it's not a threat. As a sovereign state, we certainly will have our concern, like any other countries.
00:50Taiwan's foreign minister Lin Chialong was there for side events held alongside the forum.
00:56While Taiwan is not a formal dialogue partner of the forum, it has development partner status.
01:02The United States, European Union, Britain, Canada, India and Japan are also among the forum's 21 dialogue partners.
01:10Palau, which is hosting this year's forum, is one of the few countries in the Pacific that still has formal
01:16diplomatic ties with Taiwan.
01:18Beijing considers Taiwan part of its territory and has long objected to its participation in international forums.
01:27Meanwhile, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has pushed back on Chinese concerns over Taiwan's participation at the Pacific Islands Forum.
01:36He says the forum, not Beijing, should decide who takes part.
01:40The Pacific Islands Forum determines what happens here, not any other country.
01:46Albanese also hit back at China over its recent ballistic missile test into the Pacific Ocean in July, which Australia
01:54has strongly condemned.
01:55I think that this is a well-attended meeting of the Pacific Islands Forum, and I don't think it's productive
02:03to talk it down.
02:04I'm talking it up.
02:06I think with regard to China's ballistic missile test, we've made it very clear that that is not acceptable, it's
02:13not the act of a friend, it was a provocative action, and it was inappropriate, and we've made our position
02:17very clear, as have a range of other Pacific countries.
02:21Also, fascinating news are probably going to be aquilo that we've done in a series of clips that we've added
02:21about this into some of our pilots.
02:22But in the ä to the action represented by almost all kinds of aircraft that are taking over them and
02:23um and going on to China and in an engineering program, you know we've been able to assemble.
