From genre-defying rock-’n’-roll musician to the 2026 InStyle Breakthrough List, Jutes is the real deal. With three full-length albums in his rearview mirror, the Canadian singer-songwriter has surpassed 450 million global streams of his deeply pensive tracks chronicling universally existential themes. His 2025 album ‘Dilworth’ helped him score a nomination for Breakthrough Artist of the Year at Canada’s JUNO Awards this year, and he’ll wrap his headlining ‘Smile, You’re On Tour’ romp across North America this October. Also known for writing songs for artists including TOMORROW X TOGETHER and his wife, Demi Lovato, Jutes’s fourth album, ‘Chin Up, Beautiful,’ is out now.

00:00They did LSD and then they were wearing dresses.
00:03What's up?
00:04I'm Jutes and I'm on InStyle's 2026 breakthrough list.
00:08I was a referee for a girls basketball league.
00:12I didn't actually decide that I wanted to be a real life
00:15performer until I was in college.
00:18Being around my dad all the time and him playing music
00:23in a band made it very, you know, very cool.
00:27I looked up to him a lot and I wanted to be like that.
00:30I'm really into love spells.
00:33I think he's going to be huge.
00:34He's got kind of like this like chilled out, vibey Prince thing going.
00:39One time in an airport, the TSA guy thought I was Pete Davidson.
00:44Pete Davidson can play me.
00:45I just recently bought a car, a 1989 Mercedes Benz Fight Club,
00:52which is probably a basic answer because it's like everyone's favorite.
00:55When Billy Bob Thornton and Angelina Jolie were on the red carpet
01:01and we're talking about how they just had sex in the car on their way there.
01:05Love Island is dominating my algorithm right now.
01:08Love Island, cute dogs and then really tasty like cinnamon roll recipes.
01:13The writers for South Park, they did LSD and then they were wearing dresses.
01:19They did an interview about it and they were on LSD and they were like,
01:21we can't ever talk about the dresses, like just act like we're not wearing dresses.
01:27And that's the only red carpet moment that sticks in my head.
01:31It had to be my mom.
01:33She was scared when I said I was going to pursue music and drop out of school and all that
01:36stuff.
01:37But she has been like the most supportive and my biggest fan.
01:40And then my wife, of course, obviously getting booked to perform on Jimmy Fallon.
01:45I was probably with my wife, so the first call would have been to my mom.
01:50You have to really, really, really love what you do.
01:55Naturally, it's tough business to get into.
01:58It's like you're fighting for everybody's attention all the time
02:01in a time where everybody's fighting for everyone's attention at the same time.
02:05If you love the art that you're making and you feel strongly and passionately
02:08about what you're putting into the world, then the world will open its arms and give you that big break.
02:15Let's go.
