00:00The 950-year-old Bayou Tapestry is at the British Museum, preparing to open for public viewing on
00:05the 10th of September. July marked the first time in nearly 1,000 years the Bayou Tapestry was back
00:11on UK soil, arriving at the British Museum under a strict police escort in the dead of night.
00:15The iconic 70-metre medieval masterpiece depicts the 1066 Norman Conquest and the Battle of Hastings,
00:22showing how William the Conqueror seized the English throne. Although created in England
00:25nearly a millennium ago, it's been housed in Normandy for decades. French President Emmanuel
00:30Macron called the landmark loan a sign of long-standing friendship between the two nations.
00:34Its arrival from Normandy has triggered unprecedented demand. When general admission
00:38tickets went on sale last month, the British Museum recorded the single biggest day of ticket sales in
00:43its history, generating more than £2.4 million in just 24 hours. If you missed out, the next wave of
00:49public tickets for visits early next year will officially go on sale on the 21st of October.
00:54Around 7.5 million visitors are expected to see the historic exhibition in London before it heads
01:00back to France in July 2027. So if you're looking to get tickets, expect some fierce competition.
