Imagine standing on a planet where rocks could melt into a giant lava oceanโ€ฆ and rock vapor could eventually fall back from the atmosphere. ๐ŸŒ‹๐Ÿ”ฅ

Meet K2-141b, an extreme exoplanet located roughly 200 light-years from Earth.

The planet is probably tidally locked, meaning one side constantly faces its star. The dayside may be hot enough to melt rocks, while the dark side could be extremely cold.

Scientists have proposed that rock vapor could be transported through the atmosphere and cool down, creating a bizarre form of rocky precipitation.

K2-141b isn't officially the โ€œmost dangerous planet in the universe,โ€ but it's certainly one of the most fascinating extreme worlds known to science.
