00:01A woman stabbed two people in New York City's Times Square on Monday, killing one woman before being fatally shot
00:08by police.
00:09The 49-year-old woman from Queens pulled two knives from a shopping bag and stabbed a 68-year-old
00:14man in the abdomen.
00:15Seconds later, she then stabbed a 32-year-old woman also in the abdomen.
00:20Both victims were taken to the hospital. The woman died while the man is in stable condition.
00:25I asked New Yorkers to join me in holding the victim in our thoughts and wishing them a full recovery.
00:31I want to thank the NYPD officers who stepped in and prevented a horrific attack from becoming even worse.
00:38This is what the men and women of this department do every single day to keep our city safe.
00:44As is standard, there will be an internal investigation and body-worn camera footage will be released to the public.
00:49Police officers had tried to convince the woman to drop the knives for several minutes before using a taser.
00:55Videos posted online show the taser failed to incapacitate her, after which she moved towards them.
01:01Two officers then shot her dead.
01:04Violent crime has fallen significantly in the city so far this year.
01:08However, this is the second killing this year in Times Square.
