00:00Sexual battery of an individual is without a doubt one of the most horrific crimes that
00:05occurs and a violent, out of control sexual battery on a stranger even elevates that one

00:16And then you take on top of that that the suspect is in this country illegally.
00:23That pushes it over the top.
00:25Let me introduce you to Axel Herrera, he's 24, he's here illegally from Honduras.
00:33Late at night while a 77 year old victim is asleep in her bed she hears a noise.
00:41She wakes up to see a silhouette in her living room and the next thing you know he pounces
00:47on her on the bed and begins to sexually batter her.
00:52He attacks her.
00:53He drags her around the room by her hands and feet.
00:58She fights him off.
01:00He digitally penetrates her and injures her and she fights him off.
01:08He is graphically very vile and out of control.
01:14She runs outside nude screaming for help.
01:17He drags her back into the house.
01:20And then after the sexual battery event ends he flees the residence.
01:27She's very alert.
01:29She gives us a good description to include details of the clothes he was wearing and what
01:35he looked like.
01:37The suspect, when we went to locate him, was in the shower.
01:47We took him into custody.
01:50She identified him from a photo pack.
01:54In addition to that, he had scratches all over his body where she fought back to get away from him.
02:01He was a young man, 24 years of age, sexually battering a 77-year-old woman after he broke into
02:10her house in the middle of the night.
02:15Do I need to say more?
02:17Do I need to say that this couldn't have occurred if he hadn't been in this country?
02:23Do I need to say that our goal is that he will be in a United States prison in the
02:29state of Florida for the rest of his life upon conviction?
02:34Do I need to say that this is one of the most horrific crimes we've seen in this county in
02:42a very long time?
02:45I thank God that our victim is alive and that she was able to work with us in the investigation.
02:53And I'm proud of my team of detectives who worked nonstop until we located this very violent, very dangerous rapist.
03:04And he's locked up in the county jail where he needs to be.
