00:00Imagine it's 9 in the morning. The markets are opening along the Trishuli.
00:04Pilgrims are moving toward Kailash. And laborers have started work at the
00:08hydropower sites. And then the mountain speaks. On August 26th in Nepal's Rasuwa
00:13district, ice and rock break away from a glacier and fall blocking the Linde Kola.
00:18The water stops, gathers, waits and then it moves. Taking villages, bridges and
00:22roads with it in one motion. 350 people are dead and 1300 are still missing.
00:28More than 700 of them are foreigners. Most of them Indian pilgrims who had come
00:32for Kailash. There was no rain that morning and no cloud burst. This did not
00:36come from the sky. It came from the ice. That is not a coincidence. It is a pattern.
00:41And don't tell yourself that this is the neighbor's tragedy. Look at a map.
00:44The Trishuli becomes the Narayani. Narayani becomes the Gandak. And the Gandak flows
00:48straight into Bihar before giving itself to the Ganga. The water that destroyed
00:53Rasuwa yesterday is the water in your fields and the water in your evening
00:57RT. Who warmed the glacier. Not the mountain. We did. Because there is an
01:01emptiness inside us. And we have decided to fill it from outside. One more car.
01:06One more house. One more journey. One more thing. So the consuming has no end. And
01:11endless consuming requires us to keep burning the earth. So the Himalayan ice is
01:15not melting only in our furnaces. It is melting in our wanting. Scientists warned that
01:20we are standing at the threshold of the sixth mass extinction. With species
01:25disappearing at a rate the earth has not witnessed in millions of years. This is
01:30not just one country's flood. It is a rehearsal for humanity drowned. That flood
01:35was not news. It was a mirror. Do we have the courage to find our own face in it?
