Norway's King Harald V has passed away peacefully at age 89 after 35 years on the throne.
Known as the "People's King," he modernized the Norwegian monarchy, married commoner Sonja Haraldsen, and stood as a pillar of comfort through Norway's darkest moments. His son now succeeds him as King Haakon VIII.
