00:00In 2019, the American President Donald Trump tried to buy the Groenland in Denmark.
00:05Even though it could seem ridiculous, it is not actually the first time that the United States tried to do
00:10it.
00:11Allow me to bring you back to the year 1867.
00:14The United States came to buy Alaska to Russia, and now they were looking for a bit more power.
00:21Andrew Johnson had so envisioned the possibility of annexing both the Groenland and the Iceland,
00:26but finally, no offer was made.
00:28The United States have made the offer to buy the Groenland in 1910 and 1946,
00:35both refused by Denmark.
00:37This leads us to the most recent proposal of Donald Trump in 2019.
00:41Even if the Denmark would end up losing the offer,
00:44the proposal of Trump has left a lot of people perplexed on the reason why
00:47he would want the United States to have the Groenland in first place.
00:51The main reason why he wanted to take the Groenland
00:54has actually more to do with his geographical position.
00:57You can see, with the砂漠,
01:00many maritime maritime routes and other potential military routes are available.
01:06In addition, a Arctic land possessed by the United States
01:09would help to counter the Russian and Chinese influence in the region.
