Datuk Seri Lee Chong Wei watched with satisfaction as his long-held vision for junior badminton finally came to life on Saturday (Aug 29), with the inaugural Lee Chong Wei Cup serving up a massive 184 matches on its opening day at Stadium Juara in Bukit Kiara.

The three-time Olympic silver medallist was on hand to check on proceedings as qualifying began in just four singles categories — boys’ and girls’ Under-13, boys’ Under-15 and boys’ Under-17.

00:00Pump it up, you got to pump it up, don't you know, pump it up, you got to pump it
00:06up.
00:06Li Shen vs. Isaac Ganjie, Empire Kasim.
00:21Tenilo, tenilo, tenilo, tenilo, tenilo, tenilo.
00:53I think the junior-junior team is really happy that we can see, at least he didn't go to the
00:59international tournament,
01:00at least he can play in local, he can feel the international matchup.
01:04Before I said that, I want to give the player that he didn't go to the international tournament,
01:09at least he might be in the little way, he can feel the international tournament.
01:13Some people say that this is a junior tournament, you don't have to see the top of that, no.
01:17For me, I want to be some player that didn't reach the top, but he didn't join the international, he
01:24didn't get the feeling.
01:25At least when he joined the little way, he had the feeling of the coaches behind,
01:28he had the back, he had the back, he had the back, he had the back, he had the back,
01:30he had the back,
01:31maybe there were people that said that the junior won't pay, he had the lantai, no.
01:34This is what I want to do, what's best for the semi player-player junior.
01:39At least he can feel, maybe after 2-3 years he went to the international tournament,
01:43at least he can get the experience at the Super Cup, at the international tournament tournament.
01:47It's a school holiday, normally people go to holiday, you can,
01:51but I, because I have to go to school holiday and go to this competition,
01:55I don't want budak-budak to skip to go to school, and come to the show wake up.
01:59This, I think, first tournament in Malaysia is 15 points.
02:03First tournament, I get a test card, it's only show wake up.
02:06And next year starts, it's 15 points, and I see that there are a few players talented.
02:10Yeah, I always say, badminton is a skill sport.
02:14And, if you're talented, you're not ready, you're not ready.
02:17If you're ready, you're not ready, you're not ready, you're not ready.
02:20This is the most important first, badminton is the most talented first.
02:23I think, this is the one for my experience,
02:27after I retire, and I bought Little Wake Up,
02:30I want to be a junior-junior young generation itulah.
02:32I want, it's a quality tournament.
02:36I hope, everyone can make a nice in Little Wake Up,
02:40so that everyone is happy and junior that came here,
02:41and they can perform.
02:43Enjoy the competition, and make sure you guys make it count.
