My mom was saying that there's an American president she really likes,but she seems to have forgotten his name. Forgetting the name of a president?How does that even happen?! Al right, I'll help you figure it out.Tell me what characteristics she mentioned. Well, she said he issued the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863,and he's known as the "Great Emancipator." Oh, that's got to be Abraham Lincoln! He declared it on January 1st,a hero who prevented the division of the country. That was easy,come on now. But here's whereI'm not so sure. My mom said that before becoming president,he was a professional wrestler. Then it's not Lincoln,is it? The guy giving a speech at Gettysburg wouldn't be executing an octopus hold in the ring, right? Right, exactly. But then,my mom says that in the Dakota War of 1862,he approved the execution of 38 Native Americans. That's Lincoln! That remains the largest simultaneous mass execution in US history. He freed the slaves,but he had a dual nature and was harsh toward Native Americans. You can't fool me. But my mom also says that along with his wife,he worked as a vampire hunter. No way! That's a movie! The real Lincoln was a much more complex person. And then she said,in the end, he left the famous quote,"government of the people,by the people,for the people." That is Lincoln!... But there's also criticism that the "people"didn't include Native Americans. In that case,I guess it's not Lincoln after all.
