Modern-day gladiators bring ancient Rome back to life in Croatian arena

In an age of fast-swiping modern diversions, Croatia is providing age-old entertainment in its Roman amphitheater, where gladiators fight to the 'death'. The Roman amphitheater in Pula dates from the first century and saw gladiators fight way back then. Now partly in ruins, it is an atmospheric backdrop to gladiator games where tourists and locals alike can enjoy the spectacle and call out to vote for the life or death of the performing combatants. The show recreates gladiatorial fights from the first century AD using authentic techniques "so we are engaged in experimental archeology," said organizer Sven Rojnic.
