00:00Can Alex Warren do a backflip?
00:04Yeah, hell yeah! We call it a win!
00:06Hey, I'm Alex Warren, and this is the Wired Autocomplete Interview.
00:12This is really cool. It's my first time. I grew up watching this, and so now I'm holding one.
00:17Smaller in person, which I feel like I've been told that, and I can't imagine what it's like on the
00:21other side.
00:24What is Alex Warren? A question we ask a lot.
00:28What is Alex Warren's music about? Mostly about my parents dying and my wife, which is kind of the trifecta.
00:35I'm a one-trick pony, if you think about it.
00:36This is so cool. Sorry, the first tear was like literally reliving my childhood dreams.
00:40This was so fun. Okay, cool. I can go home now.
00:43What is Alex Warren's most streamed song? It would be Ordinary.
00:47A lot of times when I play shows, at the end we save that, obviously, and it's really cool to
00:52watch the sea of thousands of phones go up in the air.
00:55Did you expect it to blow up?
00:56When I wrote Ordinary, I was expecting it to do something.
00:59It was such a special song, and the way it came about was so cool, and I remember I ran
01:04to my label going, this is the song.
01:06And I had to fight for it, and I'm so happy I did.
01:09What is Alex Warren's new album called?
01:12My new album is called Wild Child, and I'm really excited about it.
01:16My dad used to call me Wild Child growing up, and my dad's a huge part of this album.
01:20And so when you listen to it, and I hope you do, you'll really get a sense of who I
01:24was and who I am and who I'm becoming.
01:26And to me, I am and will always be a Wild Child.
01:28So that's really cool.
01:31What is Alex Warren's vocal range?
01:33I think that if any profession was to listen to my vocals right now, they'd probably call me a lower
01:39tenor or a mid-tenor.
01:40And if you ask people who don't like me, they're going to say it's just screaming.
01:42So I think that you can do a deduction however you would want.
01:46I often jump the octaves in a lot of my songs, which makes them very difficult to sing, but also
01:50very difficult when you're sick.
01:52To take them down and make them easier, because the lower they go, the easier the top is, but the
01:57harder the bottom is.
01:58And that sounds like a sexual reference.
02:00But that is...
02:03This is so fun.
02:04Why don't people do this all day?
02:06I've dreamed of this.
02:08Sick!
02:10What is Alex Warren's best song?
02:13That's a great question.
02:14It depends on who you ask.
02:15I would say my best song right now is Fever Dream.
02:18I love that song.
02:20That is a song that, when we wrote it, even to this day, me and my friends still put on.
02:24I love listening to my own songs.
02:25I write them for me.
02:27And so Fever Dream is just one of those songs that make me think of my wife the first time
02:30I met her.
02:31But also, you put the windows down on the coast, and you blast that record, and it's the best.
02:36What was Alex Warren's childhood like?
02:38My childhood was very difficult.
02:40I lost my dad when I was nine years old to cancer.
02:43After that, my mom was an abusive alcoholic who later drank herself to death.
02:48After that, I was homeless on the streets, where I met my wife online, as the modern romantic story.
02:54And she slept in a car with me.
02:56And my life got infinitely better, and my success in my career and in my life and my happiness grew
03:01even better when I met her.
03:03So Alex Warren's childhood was rough, but it made me who I am today, and I would have never met
03:08my wife.
03:10What happened?
03:11Alex Warren at the Grammys.
03:14That's dramatic.
03:15When I was performing the Grammys all week long, it went amazing.
03:19We had ran it so many times, and I think we didn't factor in the fact that there would be
03:23thousands of phones in the building.
03:25And so when I started at the top of the arena, they were like, okay, cool, here's your microphone, you
03:30can hear yourself.
03:31And I tested the microphone, and I couldn't hear myself.
03:34Everyone thought it was my ears and then my pack.
03:36And so I'm shocked there's not any videos on the internet about this, but we stopped traffic on the left
03:40and the right when people were getting hot dogs and stuff.
03:41And when that happened, you could see me frantically panicking.
03:45And I ended up singing the entire beginning of the show without actually hearing what was happening.
03:50And once I actually walked into the arena, I got a huge echoing, took the ear out, had even more
03:56echoing, and by the end of it is when it got fixed.
03:59And by that time, I was terrified.
04:02But I think that if it can happen anywhere, especially the Grammys, then any kid who's watching this and watching
04:08that knows that it's normal, it's okay, and you got this, and it doesn't mean that you suck.
04:13Because I remember when that happened, I thought I sucked.
04:15And I was pleasantly surprised by the internet that I did not suck.
04:21What Alex Warren song is about his dad?
04:24A lot of them are about my dad.
04:26It just depends on which one you're looking for.
04:27I think with grief especially, when you are losing someone in your life, it is very easy to think that
04:33that is a feeling that only you understand and only you go through.
04:37I equate it to pretty much when I was growing up, I felt so alone, yet I was surrounded by
04:40so many people.
04:41That's what grief and loss feels like.
04:42So when I write these songs, I try to explain that feeling, but also I try to write little messages
04:46for my dad because my dad left me videos.
04:48And so my songs are my message back to him.
04:51So my favorite one is Save Your Seat.
04:52That one is a song I wrote about getting married and hopefully one day having kids and the fact that
04:57my dad won't be here, but I will always be saving him a seat in my life and talking about
05:01him and keeping him alive.
05:02That's my favorite one.
05:04And there's one on this album called I Miss You More.
05:06That is my favorite song I've ever written.
05:08And it is so emotional and I played it for him at his grave and I think it's just the
05:14coolest thing I've ever written.
05:15So those are those.
05:18Felt better the second time.
05:20This is so fun.
05:21My God.
05:22Please.
05:23Can we just do this every Friday?
05:25Confession.
05:25I love Googling myself.
05:28It is so fun, but I never get these questions.
05:30It's always like really self-deprecating.
05:32So this is awesome.
05:34What are Alex Warren's tattoos?
05:35The first tattoo I ever got was my wife did this one up here and it's dated with the date,
05:41which was April 24th, 2020 during COVID.
05:43She got a tattoo gun and she started going at it.
05:46The most recent one she did was this shark right here, which I think was like a year ago.
05:50A lot of them are like no rain, no flowers.
05:53I got them all when I was in a pretty weird spot in my life.
05:55I really was battling with grief and everything.
05:58And so a lot of my tattoos are innuendos or mementos to my dad and my mom.
06:02Just a bunch of different things.
06:03I mean, this is a butterfly.
06:04My wife did.
06:04My favorite animal is an elephant, which is right here.
06:07And yeah, last year or two, I really haven't gotten any tattoos.
06:10It's not that I hate them.
06:11I just don't necessarily.
06:12I want to wait till I have a kid and then figure out whether or not I want more tattoos.
06:16I love these questions.
06:17Okay.
06:17When did Alex Warren and his wife meet?
06:19My wife and I first met November 13, 2018.
06:23We were talking on Snapchat.
06:25Snapchat, out of all places.
06:27She was on my friend's story, sleeping or something.
06:29And she was like in a weird position.
06:31And I thought she was the most adorable girl I've ever seen.
06:33And so I slid up on it.
06:34And we had been inseparable ever since.
06:36And we started our long distance relationship of April, 2019.
06:41We lived together in a car for that moment.
06:43And we didn't get a place until June, I believe, of that year.
06:47And ever since I started dating her, my life has gone really well.
06:51So she's like an angel that was sent in my life, which is really cool.
06:54When was Alex Warren on Love is Blind?
06:57That is lore.
06:59Holy cow.
07:00That was the first performance I ever did on TV, which was Love is Blind.
07:03My wife and I love smut TV.
07:05It's one of our favorite pastimes that we do.
07:07We watch TV all the time that's like reality based.
07:09And I think it's just, we find it so entertaining.
07:12Love is Blind.
07:12We were watching the show.
07:13We got the call that they wanted me to be the first performance ever on the show.
07:17And that is what I'd like to say the catalyst of ordinary blowing up on the streaming side.
07:22Does Alex Warren like Taylor Swift?
07:25I love her because I think she's just a genius.
07:26I think she's amazing.
07:27I think that she's so smart and so talented in an industry full of people telling her she could and
07:31she could.
07:32So I think that's pretty cool.
07:34Yeah.
07:36All right.
07:38Now here's the questions that I get scared of.
07:40Why?
07:40I don't ask myself that question a lot.
07:42So this might, this might be a revelation we might figure out.
07:45Why does Alex Warren have a bullet in his lung?
07:48Holy shit.
07:49I have a bullet in my lung.
07:51It's a 177 grain.
07:52So I think it's more closer to a pellet, but it is, it is considered a GSW.
07:56I believe the cops were called when I was in the hospital.
07:59It is in my lung because it would have been difficult to get out of my lung.
08:03It's stuck in my right lung and it's encapsulized at the, around the middle part of it.
08:07It went through my liver, went up, missed my heart by a few inches and went back down to my
08:11lung.
08:11The way that it's shaped is it's flat on the back and pointy on the front.
08:14And it went in my body like a pinball machine.
08:18Now, funny story about the guy who shot me.
08:20He officiated my wedding, which is even crazier.
08:24And I was just with him yesterday.
08:26He's like a father figure to me when my wife and I were sleeping in a car.
08:29We didn't have a car to sleep in.
08:30And he gave me said car to sleep in.
08:32And yeah, he's actually my childhood best friend's dad.
08:35And we just had dinner last night.
08:39Why do Alex Warren and Sombra have beef?
08:42The internet always puts me and Sombra against each other.
08:45We had popular songs around the same time and we look so much alike, which is what we get all
08:49the time.
08:50Just the tall, sleek body and beautiful soul that we get compared to all the time.
08:55Sombra and I like to fuck with each other.
08:57It's like a brother rivalry.
08:58He keeps calling me Unk and Chopped.
09:00So I ruined his dressing room.
09:02And in return, we have never stopped doing it.
09:04We play the same festivals and the same TV shows.
09:08And every single time, he finds my trailer and I find his.
09:12And we try to wreak havoc.
09:13I love that kid to death.
09:14I don't have beef with him.
09:15But that being said, I hate you.
09:18Does Alex Warren respond to DMs?
09:22I stopped checking those.
09:24I try my best to look just in case one day Jennifer Aniston DMs me again.
09:29But in the meantime, I do check them sometimes.
09:31It just depends.
09:32It gets pretty hectic over there.
09:34Alex Warren, Finding Family on the Road is my tour.
09:38I think it's really fun.
09:39I think a lot of times when you make music, especially since I started my music career in COVID, we
09:44couldn't play live shows.
09:45And so every chance I get to play a live show, I try to take them.
09:48And this tour especially, with how emotional I like to think my music is, it's really nice to be able
09:55to meet people and talk to people.
09:56And so I call it Finding Family on the Road because it feels small.
10:00It feels intimate.
10:00We're playing arenas with 15,000, 20,000 people a night and it doesn't feel like that.
10:04It feels like it's a theater or a club and it really feels something special to me.
10:09So I'm really, really happy and really blessed that it's like that.
10:11But it's such a fun show and we're coming to an end.
10:13So I was really sad about it.
10:16This was really rad.
10:17This was a childhood dream come true.
10:19I just want to say thank Wired for having me be here.
10:21And I hope I get to come back and talk next year or the year after that and the year
10:24after that.
