00:02There's a brand new crater on the moon, created by, get this, a SpaceX rocket that slammed into the lunar
00:09surface two weeks ago.
00:11The nearly 9,000-pound Falcon 9 upper stage had been drifting through space since launching in January of last
00:18year.
00:19Then, on August 5th, it hit the moon at about 5,400 miles an hour, with the force of nearly
00:25three tons of TNT.
00:27And now we can see what it left behind.
00:30NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter captured these before and after images of the impact site.
00:36That new divot you see there, surrounded by bright and dark streaks of material thrown out by the impact, is
00:43the new crater.
00:44And it's not exactly small.
00:45NASA measures it at about 60 feet across and just under 10 feet deep.
00:51The Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter has been circling the moon since 2009.
00:56And in this case, it gave scientists their most detailed look yet at what happens when a piece of human
01:02-made space debris hits the lunar surface.
01:08Sometimes the most interesting part of a story never makes it into the headlines.
01:13That's why we created Unbiased Updates Off Script, an exclusive show where we turn off the prompter for smart insights
01:20about the stories shaping your week.
01:22There is evidence, right, that it's foreign actors who are creating these accounts.
01:28Unscripted conversations, transparent reporting, and the context behind the headlines from the people who know the stories best.
01:35No spin or agenda.
01:37That website was only created one day before announcing his candidacy.
