00:00Dolly Parton's cause of death has been revealed after her representatives confirmed that the
00:03country music icon was secretly battling cancer before her death at age 80. In a statement to
00:08Page Six, Parton's rep said she bravely faced a brief battle with cancer before she died on
00:13August 25th at Vanderbilt Ingram Cancer Center in Nashville, Tennessee. They did not reveal what
00:19type of cancer she had. Her representatives also remembered Parton for spending her time bringing
00:23joy, laughter, hope, and integrity to everything she touched, while highlighting her generosity
00:29through initiatives including her imagination library and support for medical research.
00:34Parton died on August 25th. Her nephew and longtime head of security, Brian Seaver, confirmed her
00:39death in an emotional Instagram video. I'm representing the Parton and Owens family today,
00:44announcing the passing of my Aunt Dolly, Rebecca Parton Dean. Seaver said Parton had asked him
00:49years ago to make the announcement when the time came. He described the moment as an honor mixed
00:54with absolute pride and great sadness, adding that the sadness belonged to the family, not
00:59with Dolly. Seaver also revealed that Parton made a final request before her death. She
01:04asked to be laid to rest in a beautiful bed of plush cotton.
01:07Because after a life wearing heavy rhinestones, she finally deserves to be comfortable and have
01:12some rest.
01:13Parton had reportedly been admitted to Vanderbilt five days before her death with kidney and
01:18autoimmune issues. Just days earlier, she appeared to be in good spirits while virtually accepting
01:22the ACM Poets Award at the ACM Honors on August 19th. But Parton had also been open about experiencing
01:28health struggles. In her final interview with People on August 21st, she said she had been
01:33dealing with health issues that she had not paid attention to while caring for her late
01:37husband, Carl Dean, who died in March 2025.
01:40It's not like I haven't been through hard times with my health, Parton said.
01:43Days before that interview, she had canceled an appearance at Dollywood after her doctor advised
01:48her not to travel because of ongoing health issues.
01:51In a pre-recorded video, Parton explained that she sometimes became dizzy and dehydrated,
01:55adding that her Nashville doctor had clipped my wings and told her she wasn't traveling
02:00that week.
02:00Following her death, Parton's longtime friends and co-stars paid tribute to the legendary
02:05performer.
02:06Her Steel Magnolias co-star, Julia Roberts, called Parton a magical and joyous human and
02:11said the sun has dimmed today. Sally Field and Parton's 9 to 5 co-star, Lily Tomlin,
02:16were also among those mourning the singer-songwriter.
02:19Dolly Parton leaves behind a legacy that spans generations, from her music and acting career
02:23to her philanthropy and the countless lives she touched along the way.
02:27Her family, friends, and fans are now remembering a woman whose impact extended far beyond the
02:32stage.
