00:00As the gates opened, Rich's strike was all the way at the back of the pack.
00:03Given 80-1 odds of winning and the furthest starting stall from the rail,
00:07nobody expected much of this late entry into the Kentucky Turby.
00:11The only reason Rich was even in this race was because another horse had been pulled out.
00:15For the trainer, Eric Reid, it was a strange feeling to finally have a horse in the biggest race in
00:20the US.
00:21It was only six years earlier that Eric's barn burned down during a lightning storm, killing 23 horses.
00:27After everything he'd witnessed, Eric nearly quit the industry entirely.
00:32But when the other owners and trainers found out what had happened, they urged Eric to keep going,
00:36sending donations and offering support.
00:38With the little money Eric had left over after rebuilding the barn,
00:42he decided to buy another racehorse, and that's when he picked up Rich's strike.
00:46Despite his name, Rich was actually quite cheap.
00:49Eric didn't think Rich was likely to race in the Kentucky Derby, of course.
00:53But he liked the horse, and he figured he might be able to join some other races,
00:56and maybe, if he was lucky, he'd make his money back.
00:59However, Rich quickly surprised him.
01:02He managed to finish in the top five in seven different races, even winning one of them.
01:06And when it came down to it, he made it as a reserve for the Kentucky Derby.
01:10So, on the morning of the entry deadline, when a horse was pulled out of the Derby,
01:14Rich's strike was given the offer to enter in its place.
01:17Eric couldn't believe their luck.
01:19It would be his and Rich's jockey, Sonny Leon's, first time ever at the Kentucky Derby.
01:24As a race went on, all eyes were on the favourites, Epicenter and Xander,
01:28with seemingly nobody paying attention to Sonny and Rich,
01:31who had now clawed all the way from the back of the pack into the middle.
01:35And as the horses started to spread out on the final straight,
01:38some space started to open up along the rail.
01:41And Sonny knew that if they were going to have any chance at getting Rich on the podium,
01:45they were going to have to make their move now.
01:47However, Rich was nervous coming up behind number six, and he started to pull back.
01:52But Sonny helped him find the gap, and then rocketed past.
01:55As the race came down to its final moments, Rich continued cutting away at the lead.
01:59And then...
02:00And coming down to the wire, Epicenter's headed,
02:03Rich Strike is coming up on the inside!
02:05Oh my goodness, the longest shot has won the Kentucky Derby!
02:10Rich Strike has done it!
02:12In a stunning, unbelievable upset!
02:15and a couple of weeks had the idea of this game.
02:16So the following will be when we see it as the story of a long time for a long time.
02:16We'll see it as the last part of a long time for a long time for a long time!
