This video examines a real historical case within a documentary and educational context, exploring the strange and little-known English custom of "wife selling." Practiced between the 17th and 19th centuries as an informal way to end marriages, it emerged at a time when divorce was virtually inaccessible to the majority of the population.
Although the practice was not legal, it took place publicly in markets and fairs and was often accepted by society as an alternative to formal divorce.
