00:03At the Estadio Banco Guayaquil in Quito, Ecuador, we have Independiente del Valle versus the Colombians, Deportes-Tolima.
00:11It is the final match in the round of 16 in the 2026 Comebol Libertadores.
00:19Finally poised as both go in search of a place in the...
00:25...González...
00:28...and Rodriguez.
00:32And it's a pot shot from Deep, but it gets the thumbs up from Joaquin Papa, the Uruguayan coach of
00:42Independiente del Valle, 39 years of age.
00:52Corner kick for the home side in front of their supporters.
01:01Look at the marking.
01:02Whipped in. What a save that was from Neto Volpi.
01:06To deny Independiente the first goal of the night.
01:11The simplest of moves.
01:16Inch-perfect corner kick.
01:23Look at the marking. Look at the space Matteo Caravajal has.
01:31All alone, but the header is straight at Tolima's goalkeeper Neto Volpi, who had the reflexes.
01:45As...
01:45...the Ecuadorians now.
01:47Great ball in for...
01:49...González.
01:50Pata puts it back in the area.
01:51Chornosa goes down.
01:54Deflection on the way through from Lourdes.
01:57It's all happening.
02:05This is what Independiente are...
02:11...querying, but as you see Mosqueda...
02:15...certainly shows that he's making no effort to touch the player whatsoever.
02:18So...
02:19Great turn there.
02:20Real opportunity for Huacho.
02:24Well, he said he hadn't had any chances up until now.
02:29But that was an opening for the Mexican-American striker.
02:36Just didn't get the contact that needed.
02:39Excellent play.
02:40From the number 14, Omar Mardinez.
02:44But the...
02:46...Fedoreans to...
02:47There not to be time to launch one more attack.
02:50And so it is...
02:50...that we reach the midway point...
02:53...in this second...
02:55...leg in the round of 16.
02:57Libertadores tie between Independiente de Valle and Deportes.
03:00Tolima.
03:01Goalless on the night.
03:03But with so much at stake...
03:08It is often to be expected in these kind of games.
03:12We're back...
03:13...under way.
03:1545 minutes to decide who will progress between...
03:18...Independiente de Valle and Deportes.
03:22Tolima to the quarter-finals.
03:24That's the prize that's at stake this evening.
03:30Tornosa.
03:31It's a dangerous ball in finds González.
03:33And they've got the opener.
03:37Daiko Romero...
03:39...with a tap-in.
03:43They've broken the deadlock.
03:45Independiente take the lead.
03:47And they extend...
03:50...their lead over Tolima to two goals on aggregate.
03:55Meaning they take a big step towards the quarter-finals with that goal.
04:01Just ahead of the hour mark.
04:06Tornosa's delivery, González.
04:11With the header.
04:14That caused the problems for Neto Volpi.
04:21It's a great save from the keeper, but he can only parry it into the path of Romero, who didn't
04:28make a mistake.
04:38It's a reflex save.
04:41No criticism of Volpi because the...
04:43Well, he parries it straight to Romero.
04:48There's nothing else he can do about it.
04:50It's a snapshot save.
04:51It's a reflex save.
04:54Good awareness, though Schunker was on hand, but...
04:59González, Charlie González, charging forward the center as this is Quintena on the ball.
05:06Pata.
05:08Does well to get past his man, González.
05:12Didn't get the direction on that whatsoever, did he?
05:17He knows there's a good chance.
05:20And this is the kind of opening that will start happening for Independiente as Tolima forced to push forward.
05:26Space will appear.
05:27Yeah.
05:35Who replaces him in the heart of midfield.
05:55Not if Charlie González has anything to say about it.
05:59And that is game seven match for Independiente del Valle.
06:04That's it.
06:06How about that for a finish from the Paraguayan?
06:12And how about that for them following their coaches' orders to hurt Tolima on the counter?
06:18It's Route 1 football.
06:21And it was brutally effective.
06:27The Ecuadorians hold a three-goal margin now on their Colombian opposition.
06:38They just knock it over the top of Osorio.
06:46One touch from Charlie González to control.
06:50And one touch to finish.
06:52Brilliantly taken by the number nine, who is now the top scorer in the Libertadores.
06:58That's his seventh goal this year's competition.
07:03Parra.
07:05The bullet dangerously in.
07:09And somehow Junior Hernandez fails to find the back of the net.
07:16The first real action of danger that Tolima have managed to produce.
07:22The first move.
07:25Parra in that.
07:26They haven't been outplayed Tolima.
07:29They just haven't managed to make things happen in that way it really counts.
07:34At the other end of the pitch.
07:35Perhaps there could be an opening here.
07:37Junior Hernandez.
07:38Oh, that's a wonder goal.
07:41From Tolima's left back.
07:43What a strike.
07:47It stems from a mistake in defence by Independiente.
07:51But that is top class.
07:55From the left back.
08:02We were getting a bit carried away with Independiente walking away with this.
08:08It's absolutely unstoppable.
08:11It's a missile.
08:12From Junior Hernandez.
08:20Fabulous technique.
08:23Real comp aggregate.
08:26Over five minutes of.
08:29Play remaining.
08:35Sanchez.
08:38Last ditch save.
08:40In goal.
08:40By Kindana.
08:43And suddenly.
08:45Independiente look at sixes and sevens.
08:48And Tolima.
08:49Had their sights on getting an equaliser.
08:51And taking this right down to the death.
08:55Right to the wire.
08:57It's possessed.
08:59And this is...
09:01Riosco.
09:03Riones.
09:04Skips past Hurtado.
09:07But it's all finishing it off.
09:12Great finish by the Argentine.
09:17Riosco.
09:18Restores.
09:20That.
09:21Three goal cushion on aggregate.
09:243-1 on the night.
09:284-1 on aggregate.
09:34Just as Tolima had been...
09:37Had reduced the deficit.
09:39And tried to do a little bit more.
09:41It's a great finish.
09:43By the 24-year-old.
09:44Full of Argentinos juniors.
09:45And Central Cordoba.
09:48One quick touch.
09:52And...
09:53It's the...
09:55Not giving Neto Volpi any time to...
09:59Get into position.
10:02Unable to stop that shot.
10:08Independiente's third on the night.
10:12With the last kick of the match.
10:15It finishes Independiente del Valle three.
10:19Tolima one.
10:22This evening.
10:23In Quito.
10:24It's 4-1.
10:26On aggregate.
10:28The Ecuadorians march on.
