00:00Imagine losing power in your home and still not having it back 14 days later.
00:06No lights, no air conditioning, no hot showers, no refrigerator, not even a way to charge your phone.
00:13That's the reality for thousands of people here in Gary, Indiana.
00:17A deadly powerful storm ripped through the area, knocking down trees and power lines,
00:24leaving hundreds of thousands without electricity, although most of those people have gotten their power back on by now,
00:31many here in Gary are still left waiting in the dark.
00:35And this isn't just a matter of inconvenience, this is also life-threatening for some.
00:40I spoke to a man who says his partner is pregnant with twins and also diabetic,
00:47and because of this outage, her insulin spoiled in their warm refrigerator.
00:51Her insulin has went bad due to no power, you know what I mean?
00:56And yeah, and it's hard and stressful because we have to live here in the house in the dark.
01:02More than 75% of Gary's population is black, according to the latest census data,
01:08and many residents here wonder why several nearby towns had their power restored days ago
01:15while they're still here waiting.
01:17I was disappointed. It was devastating.
01:22The utility company handling repairs here in Gary claims they have crews working around the clock
01:28to restore power to the entire city.
01:30Right now, their timetable indicates they should have that accomplished by the end of Tuesday,
01:36but after two weeks without electricity, people here are pretty skeptical.
