00:00I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Everybody can make tortillas. All you need
00:03masa and water. A lot of the time it's going to say one to one. For me, I like to
00:07start with one
00:08cup of masa with one cup of water but I add it in almost a tablespoon at a time. You
00:13got to go slow
00:14and just get mixing it. It's very soft but it's not sticky. It all wants to stick together but it's
00:18not cracking. That's kind of the look that I'm going for. The last test I'll do is I'll take
00:22about a tablespoon and make sure it can combine together. This one seems still a little bit dry
00:27so I'm going to add just a touch more water into our mix until it wants to stay together perfectly.
00:32All right, at this point right now you can either wrap it in plastic wrap and hold it for a
00:36pretty
00:36long time in the fridge. It can be a few days or if we're going to be cooking it relatively
00:40soon,
00:40I have a moist kitchen cloth. I'm going to throw that over the top. That should keep it from drying
00:44out. It's always nice to have a tortilla press. For me, if I don't have a tortilla press, I'm just
00:48as
00:49happy to roll it out using a rolling pin. The next thing, some plastic so these don't stick to here.
00:53You're going to need one piece for the bottom and one piece for the top. You can go all out
00:58and buy the fanciest ones or you can get your regular old grocery bag, take some scissors,
01:04just cut out two little squares. Going for about a tablespoon at a time. Take our little muscle ball
01:08and go right into the middle here. I'm barely going to press. I'm going to lift it up, take a
01:13look here.
01:13This is just slightly dry but I think we're going to be okay. I'm going to turn it, drop this
01:18back down,
01:18press a little bit harder, twist it one more time, drop it down. This will be our last press here.
01:24There's our tortilla. All you need to do now would be to throw this onto either a kamal,
01:28a non-stick, or a cast iron that's ripping hot. Once you've seen it done this a few times,
01:33this tortilla is ready to go. Throw it underneath another kitchen towel. We'll just keep adding onto that pile.
