01:57Along with ships of every sort, the coastal ferries arrive and depart from here every day.

02:09The Nord-Norga, a fairly large and very comfortable ship, was christened in 1997

02:14and built to sail the narrow straits, deep fjords and small harbors of the Norwegian coast.

02:25Now with freight, cars and passengers aboard, the ship departs Bergen in the early evening.

02:32Our voyage begins.

02:38It's a six-day trip north to Kirkenes, on the border with Russia and well above the Arctic Circle, an

02:45Along the way, the Hurtigruten ships stop at 34 ports of call as they travel north and south along Norway's

02:52stunning coast.

02:53Some passengers will travel a short distance to visit friends or family up the coast.

02:58Others, especially in summer, will go the whole way up north.

04:00Entering the Atlantic from Bergen, the Nord-Norga steers north and passes the island Kinniklova.

04:07The sky darkens for a night that will last only about four hours.

04:20The vessels plying the Herdagruten route are freight ships, mail boats and passenger liners all in one.

05:38It's history, the Vikings, domination by its neighbor countries, fishing and farming in an often harsh climate and challenging terrain,

05:46have created a strong and determined national character, great pride and love of country.

07:02On the morning of day two, the Nord-Norga arrives in Alishund, Norway's largest fishing town.

07:08A lovely city of 40,000, its center was consumed by fire in 1904.

07:13It was rebuilt in Art Nouveau style, now carefully preserved.

11:55The most famous waterfalls in the Grangerfjord are the Seven Sisters and the Suter.

39:10We come and go, and it's a little sad to put these beautiful places behind us, but the ship must

39:35These waters, this coast, these islands were home to the Vikings.

39:41From here, over more than 300 years, they raided the British Isles, towns and cities along the North Sea and

40:47It's two miles long and just 100 yards wide at its mouth, requiring the ship's captain
