00:04yeah all right a very good morning today we've got dr. Caldwell coming out he's our vet many of
00:11you will know that already and we are going to be doing dental surgery on Charlie parole Charlie
00:17if he didn't have bad luck he'd have no luck he's broken his canine and we are having we are
00:24going
00:24to have to extract it what we've noticed is every time Charlie sees dr. Caldwell he runs for the hills
00:41so what we're going to do is we're going to make it look as though we are actually doing a
00:44move
00:45around the other thing that we're going to be doing is we're going to be sedating Charlie from
00:50the the cage vehicle the vehicle that transports the land sorry sorry sorry hey hey hey hey hey hey
01:11yes he can be a bully yeah Charlie Charlie yeah yeah
01:20Charlie yeah yeah the problem with what's happened now is I was giving him too much
01:33meat I want to him to fill up on meat before anesthetic so just easier to get him in the
01:40night pen and then we're gonna try and figure out what to do from from here my brain is
01:58spinning we need to turn them anyway because the cannon is the right
02:11next time I'll remember
02:12next time I'll remember
02:14one two three
02:16right
02:21okay
02:24okay
02:26well
02:44thank you
02:51It's like literally just like a clock?
02:54Yeah, his laryngeal ventricles were a little bit in a spasm there but they hardly ever
03:00get it but with Charlie we know he's gonna have something.
03:07Charlie, Charlie, Charlie.
03:08Okay.
03:25Put that tongue down at the bottom.
03:28Just make sure it's gonna do that.
03:32Put that there.
03:51We're grinding now to just smooth the bone then we're gonna stitch it up.
03:55Yes!
03:55What a bloody story, eh?
04:03It's not all blood but most of it's fluids from the spraying.
04:09The water spraying.
04:25Good morning.
04:28How are we doing?
04:32Okay.
04:33What are we doing?
04:35Okay.
04:36Let us know in front.
05:02Oh, oh, oh, hello, my boy.
05:06Shame, look at you, my boy.
05:10At least you're up.
05:12Good to see.
05:13You're going to have to spend a bit of time in there, my buddy.
05:16Okay.
05:17Oh, okay.
05:19Oh, guys, that's good news.
05:21He's up and about.
05:22That's quick.
05:23That's very quick.
05:24I'm going to leave him there.
05:27Awesomeness.
05:29All right, guys, so quick check on Charlie.
05:31He's up and about.
05:32That's impressive because it's literally five minutes since the reversal was given.
05:40So it just shows how well the anesthetic worked.
05:44He's not, he doesn't look too groggy.
05:47He actually looks bright eyed and bushy tailed.
05:49And I'll just pray that he just takes it easy and doesn't put too much stress on that tooth socket
05:57where the tooth's been extracted.
05:59So all in all, a very successful day, a long procedure.
06:03I don't envy doc at all.
06:06It's back breaking stuff.
06:08And I just pray that this is the last canine or tooth that we actually have to remove on the
06:13line.
06:19Wait, wait, wait.
06:24Hey.
06:38Hello, my boy.
06:41Hello, Charlie.
06:44Hey!
06:45That's my flippin' hand.
06:48Hey!
06:53Come here, Charlie.
06:55Nice, eh?
07:11Hey!
07:14It's fine.
07:17I actually came here this morning to feed Thor's group some eggs, but more specifically to check up on Charlie
07:25after his
07:26procedure, his tooth extraction.
07:29And boy, oh boy.
07:31It was just chaos.
07:33Oh, the lionesses were very naughty, especially Indy who attempted to steal my camera.
07:40So we got a very nice shot of the inside of a lion's mouth.
07:43Anyway, I managed to recover my camera.
07:45And I also managed to get a good look at Charlie and super impressed.
07:51Guys, I run out of superlatives to describe lions and their resilience and how quickly they bounce back from injury
08:00or medical procedures like this tooth extraction.
08:04It was a major event.
08:07And to see just a couple of days after the surgery, Charlie doing so well, his appetite's good.
08:14He's not bleeding anywhere.
08:16The stitches are holding.
08:18He's really, really focused on eating his eggs.
08:21But there's still one thing worrying me.
08:23And I know Doc and I are debating this backwards and forwards, but I'm still not convinced about the vision.
08:34Today was a classic of him not seeing my hand properly.
08:39So he doesn't do that.
08:42So he's bolting for the hand, but then he realizes it's my hand.
08:46So when I show him something like, so when I recovered the GoPro from Indy, he thought that the GoPro
08:55was food.
08:56So he's not really seeing properly what's in my hand.
09:00And then also he's got this nystagmus, this kind of flickering of the eyes.
09:04I don't know what that, that's definitely neurological.
09:08So yeah, it's a combination of, is the neurological condition causing an eyesight problem?
09:16I don't know.
09:17I'm not the expert here, but there's definitely something up with his vision.
09:23He can't see properly.
09:24And that's also affecting how he behaves.
09:27He's scared of shadows and certain things, sudden movements, for example.
09:34If I move suddenly, he gets a fright.
09:37Anyway, Charlie's doing very well.
09:40Despite that, we are looking into it.
09:42We're waiting for the full blood results to come back.
09:45We probably will have them sometime this week.
09:49And I'll be sure to update you.
09:51So yeah, update on Charlie.
09:54Thanks must be extended to all the members of the channel and the pride leaders.
09:58And of course, those of you who subscribe on Facebook.
10:03Because it's really, it is, you guys do make the financial contributions that enable us to continue to give the
10:10care that these animals so richly deserve.
10:13Until next time, from me, Kevin, and all the cats at the sanctuary.
10:17Bye!
