00:00For those with breast cancer, meeting places such as the Booby Brunch are a lifeline.
00:07It's a spot for people to meet and talk about their shared experiences.
00:13Around 1 in 7 women have breast cancer, therefore the founders of these meetings say it's important for them to
00:21come and share their experiences.
00:24In light of World Breast Cancer Research Day, raising awareness is more important than ever for the people here.
00:33It's recognition of breast cancer and I think it's important to get out there, whether it's world breast cancer or
00:43just in the UK.
00:44It just means, and it's research isn't it, so they're researching into what's caused breast cancer and how they can
00:51remedy it.
00:52And that's very important to me, having had breast cancer myself 21 years ago and hosting the Booby Brunch, there's
00:58new ladies coming in all the time.
00:59We've got 300, nearly 300 ladies in our group at the moment.
01:03So yeah, any research that's done into breast cancer can only be good for those ladies and the ones that
01:08are coming up behind them.
01:09As well as having a branch in Medway, this group has seen more and more people coming through its doors.
01:17I think they're incredibly important.
01:21Not only are we supporting a local business, but we're also supporting women that perhaps can't get support elsewhere.
01:30Although their friends and family members might be there, these women are actually going for the journey and they actually
01:35understand what it's like.
01:37And so I think it's incredibly important.
01:41I just think when I was going through breast cancer, there was no support.
01:46And I only came across this group about five weeks ago.
01:51So I'm newly joined and it's lovely to chat to other ladies.
01:55So if you or anyone you know has a breast cancer diagnosis, the next Booby Brunch will be taking place
02:04here at the Summit Cafe on the 16th of September from 10 o'clock till 12.
02:12They'll be there with welcoming arms and a cuppa.
