💡👑 MEET MARY BEATRICE DAVIDSON KENNER—an innovative Black American inventor whose remarkable ideas deserve to be remembered!

Born in Charlotte, North Carolina, in 1912, Mary Kenner grew up surrounded by creativity and invention. Her father, Sidney Nathaniel Davidson, was also an inventor, and Mary began developing ideas while she was still young.

One of Kenner's best-known inventions involved improving menstrual hygiene. She developed an adjustable sanitary belt with a moisture-resistant napkin pocket, an idea she worked on years before she was financially able to obtain a patent.

And her creativity didn't stop there! 💡

Over her lifetime, Kenner received five U.S. patents, including inventions related to:

👜 A carrier attachment for a walker
🚿 A bathroom tissue holder
🧽 A back washer designed for use in a shower or bathtub
👩🏾 Improvements related to feminine hygiene

Her story also illustrates the barriers Black women faced in bringing inventions to market. Accounts of Kenner's life describe a company initially showing interest in her sanitary-belt invention before declining to pursue it after discovering that she was Black.

Despite obstacles, Mary Kenner kept inventing.

She wasn't a celebrity or the head of a giant technology company. She was a creative problem-solver who looked at everyday difficulties and imagined ways to make people's lives easier.

That is exactly why her story belongs in Black History. ✊🏾💡

Mary Kenner died in 2006, but her inventive spirit remains an inspiring example of creativity, determination and innovation.
