Clifton Chenier – Bogalusa Boogie 1976 (USA, Zydeco-Louisiana Blues)

The roots of the blues are almost certainly in the swampy American south, which is also where Cajun music was rooted. It seems almost natural that the two genres would meet like this, and the results are pretty good. I love the blues guitars, the horns are great, and in general the album has a nice groove to it. The quality is a bit spotty, but the best stuff here is a great window into the folk music of the swamplands.
Recorded in one day, this captures the urgency of live zydeco in the studio, with Chenier forcing the band through the repertoire non-stop without second takes. The lead instruments are Chenier's accordion and John Hart's rocking saxophone.
