00:02Nine major tech companies had about $3 trillion in off-balance sheet commitments,
00:08mostly tied to AI infrastructure, according to a Wall Street Journal analysis of securities filings.
00:14The obligations include about $1.2 trillion in commitments for leases that have not yet begun
00:20and $1.9 trillion in purchase obligations. Alphabet reported $811 billion in purchase
00:26commitments and contractual obligations as of June 30th, up from $332 billion three months earlier.
00:34Meta disclosed $347 billion in obligations for leases that have not started,
00:38including its Hyperion Data Center project. The commitments are growing faster than
00:43traditional capital spending, which totaled about $600 billion over the company's past year.
00:48The journal said the obligations could become a burden if future AI demand falls short of expectations.
