00:02So, now we're about to get into the start of Race 5 of Goldfleet at the 470 World Championships in
00:10Enoshima, Japan.
00:11We've got wind blowing from the north-northeast, about 8 knots, and it's lovely 75 degrees Fahrenheit.
00:20Hi, my name's Andy Rice, and joining me again is Olympic champion from Rio 2016.
00:26That is Igor Maronich, the president of the 470 class. Welcome, Igor.
00:31And it's looking like a very committee boat and biased start coming up very soon.
00:37Yeah, hi, Andy. Hi, everyone. Let's see the start and then we can continue talking.
00:42Just coming into the final five seconds. Four, three, two, one.
00:49And they're off and it looks very bunched up at the committee boat end.
00:54I wonder if there was anybody over a little bit early. No one wanted the pin end.
00:59It looks like there's a German boat, German 11, I think it is, that is the most closest boat to
01:07our picture.
01:08So, they have got lots of nice clear air.
01:11And then further up to windward, there is a boat really well poked out.
01:15We'll see if we can identify that a bit later on. I don't know if it's a French boat.
01:19Yeah, that's a France 10.
01:24They had an amazing start middle of the seat, yeah, middle of the back.
01:29Yeah, so let's keep an eye on France 10 in this race because we know how valuable good starts are
01:36in Olympic competition.
01:37That's Manon Pernanias and Pierre Willio with a great start out the middle of the line.
01:43The previous race, Igor, it looked like the breeze was building towards the end of that race when we saw
01:49GBR 55 crossing the line well in the lead.
01:53But now we're into the next start. It looks like it's dropped off a bit lighter again.
01:57Yes, and it dropped a bit. In fact, it dropped just under the Oscar flag limit, so just under 10
02:03knots.
02:04And teams are sailing without extra propelling the boat, without crews pumping and pushing through these waves.
02:12So, it's a bit easier race, if you like, for the crews this month.
02:17Yes, is that a bit of a sigh of relief or do you think the really fit crews regret not
02:22being able to use their fitness advantage?
02:25No, I think it's a mixed feelings in the fleet right now.
02:29Some teams really like the physical part of it.
02:32Some really like enjoy the feeling part of it.
02:36So, it's different feelings in the fleet now.
02:39But I think it's last day of fleet racing, so crews might be tired already.
02:44And I think they're quite happy with this.
02:47Yes, yeah, it is getting towards the end of a long week.
02:51And, yeah, I'm sure it's been mentally and physically very exhausting for the teams.
02:58And so, they're just about up to full power, but not quite.
03:02The crews are on a high trapezing mode.
03:05Just tell us why are the crews adjusting their height here and there?
03:10Because we can see that going on, Igor.
03:11So, yeah, sure, it's a very tricky conditions as we have seen in the beginning of the previous race as
03:18well.
03:18So, it's the boat is sometimes fully powered up.
03:22Sometimes it's lacking some power.
03:23So, crews need to adjust to that.
03:26Because when the puff gets in, you really don't want to get any of that power away.
03:33So, you want to be as flat as possible, low as possible on that wire to increase the writing moment
03:38and to put that into speed.
03:42And then when it's less, you know, they are very alert to be on top of the balance game.
03:48And it's also very, very important, the communication there between the skipper and the crews.
03:55If the skipper is easing the main sheet or not, or when the skipper is fully tight, then the crew
04:01must be very alert.
04:03So, it's a lot of things going on, even though it might look as they are a bit more static
04:07in this race.
04:08Yeah, as you say, still a lot to think about.
04:11And quite a lot to think about for GBR 55 on the left of picture.
04:15After dominating the previous race, our yellow bib wearers, overall leaders of the championship, not having such an easy time
04:23of it in the early stages of this race.
04:26But, as Igor has explained a number of times, it's a very open racetrack where there are always opportunities to
04:32go up as well as go down.
04:33So, everyone is having to keep their eye out for that next opportunity.
04:38And even when you're in the lead, you can't take anything for granted.
04:44Here's Portugal 21.
04:46We just had them last in picture.
04:49It's been a good regatta so far for the two Portuguese teams, Portugal 21 and Portugal 25.
04:56Both having moments at the front.
04:58But, at the moment, it's Correa who is making the early running.
05:03They are leading in this race.
05:05Here we are with GBR 55, currently looking to make gains out to the right-hand side of the race
05:12course.
05:13You'd think they're not even in a world championship.
05:15There's no other boat in sight, which is probably not good news for them.
05:21They look a little bit separated from the rest of the fleet there, Igor.
05:26Yeah, sure.
05:27Now, they were good this week in finding good lanes, clear lanes.
05:33So, yes, here it looks like they are on their own.
05:35But, I'm sure if the camera would go a bit more to the right, there is, on Trekker, there is
05:39a bit of a group, a windward of them.
05:43But, yeah, as I said before, they are quite good in finding good lanes, both upwind and downwind in this
05:51regatta.
05:51And, they look pretty powered up.
05:53They look like they might actually be planing upwind at the moment.
05:57And, so, they've got maybe the better breeze in these marginal conditions at the moment.
06:04Yeah, yeah.
06:05They like those conditions where you need to work as well, when you need to dig deep.
06:12And, they enjoy those.
06:13And, why they enjoy it?
06:14Because, they are one of the best teams in that.
06:17Now, looking across at the color of the water, where would you like to be right now on that racetrack?
06:24It looks like there is a bit more pressure on the left at this moment.
06:28But, it's the picture on the water here in Enoshima this week is changing so fast.
06:34So, it's hard to make those decisions well all the time.
06:41Yeah, but I tended to agree with you.
06:44It looks like where the Silver Fleet was in the far distance just now, looked like there might be a
06:48little bit more wind there.
06:49But, us getting this privileged shot from the drone, we're seeing things that the sailors just can't see at sea
06:56level.
06:56It's so much easier to spot the wind patterns from up at this level, isn't it?
07:01Yeah, yeah, sure.
07:02And, we have seen Spanish team going behind the British, doing separation, going left.
07:09So, let's see how will they get out of this, because they don't look good on the tracker.
07:14They don't look good on the current standings.
07:18No, no, that's true.
07:20We are with one of the Portuguese boats.
07:23The crew's got his arm in the air.
07:25Why has he got his arm in the air?
07:27The crews are trying everything to increase the writing moments.
07:30So, whatever the weight you can put away from the boat helps.
07:33And, yeah, that's it.
07:36And, in these conditions, you can't propel the boat pumping.
07:40So, then they try to increase the writing moment in a static way.
07:46And, if anybody was doing the pumping, how much faster do you think the boat would be in these conditions,
07:53if someone were to do that and everybody else stayed still?
07:56Probably, it could help you, after the start, to maybe hold the lane with one way of pumping.
08:02And, then, on the, like, straight line, if you go for a fast mode, it could help you to really
08:09get through those waves
08:10and to surf the boat by propelling it with pumping.
08:15Yeah.
08:15It does make a difference.
08:17Here, we're looking at Germany 11, a middle of picture, a Switzerland off to the left.
08:23And, at the moment, it looks like Germany is leading this race.
08:27This is Simon Deish and Anna Markfort.
08:29They were silver medalists in the World Championship a year ago in Gdynia, Poland.
08:34And, they have been sailing together for a while now as a team.
08:39And, they go back a long way, both of them separately in the male and female competition.
08:45So, really experienced team.
08:48And, here are the Swiss team, Yves Momodan, Maya Siegenthaler, also a very experienced team.
08:57And, you can see Maya just sticking her arm out for the extra righting moment.
09:06And, there's a broader look back down the race course and the boat's going up the right-hand side.
09:14And, it's pretty nice conditions.
09:17And, Igor, this is the second of three races scheduled today.
09:22And, this is all about getting into the final ten.
09:26Is that right?
09:26Is it getting into the final ten for the last day that's the critical cutoff?
09:31Yeah, yeah, absolutely.
09:32Top ten are going to sail for the medals tomorrow.
09:36It's still one race to go after this one.
09:39So, still plenty of points in game.
09:41And, it's quite a big fleet as well.
09:44Here in Aroshima, as I said earlier, there's 37 boats in the gold fleet.
09:49And, plenty of points to play for.
09:54And, since sailors know that every point is crucial, they will fight very hard in those two races.
10:01And, some teams from those ten are fighting to be in that ten,
10:07while others are really aiming to do a podium.
10:11So, I'm really, yeah, looking forward to how this is going to develop.
10:18Now, it looks like Israel 15 is up near the front, battling with China 1,
10:23who were leading one of the races yesterday for quite some time,
10:28before dropping back in the latter stages of that race.
10:30But, if Israel 15 really is up in the top two, that's a very good recovery from a poor start.
10:37Because, I remember a few minutes ago, we weren't talking about them, Igor,
10:40but Nittai Hasson and Noga Tiano were being bounced from one tack to the other,
10:45trying to look for clear air.
10:47And, it seems like they managed to fight their way up to the front.
10:50Yeah, yeah, exactly.
10:52It looks like the right side in this upwind was not the place to be.
10:58And, people coming from the left are having a nice lift.
11:02And, from what I can see, also nice pressure.
11:05So, around in the lead go Wenjudong and Heilun Zhao from China,
11:11with quite a nice lead.
11:13And, now it's two Israeli boats coming in, in second and third.
11:17That's Israel 121, Roy Levy and Ariel Gale going round in second.
11:23And, then the other Israeli boat, Nittai Hasson and Noga Tiana going round in third.
11:28Followed by one of the British boats, Hannah Bristow and James Taylor in fourth.
11:33And, then Japan, Norway, Germany.
11:36I saw Korea going round there.
11:39And, yeah, we just saw Germany and now Switzerland going round.
11:43And, just a while back, Germany were leading.
11:46So, something went wrong in quite a short time for Germany 11, who had been leading.
11:52And, things are changing very quickly on this race course.
11:55They're in the middle of shot, the right of shot.
11:58Spain 44, the defending world champions.
12:02And, they're in the mix.
12:04They're in the fight in amongst the Portuguese.
12:06Two Portuguese teams surrounding the Spanish.
12:09But, all those teams are just outside the top ten.
12:13And, here are our yellow bib wearers.
12:16Easy winners of the previous race.
12:18Be hard pushed for Martin Wrigley and Bertine Harris to be able to win this race from where they are
12:26right now.
12:27Let's see how much of a climb they can make.
12:28And, there's Spain 18, but back, oh no, we're back with the, with the mark rounding.
12:38And, China going a little bit deeper than the rest.
12:43So, China sailing a good defensive tactics.
12:48And, there goes Ukraine 22, the only Ukrainian boat here.
12:53And, here is the battle between China and Israel.
13:02And, it's very good to see second British team, Hannah and James, who sail these worlds very well.
13:12I sort of feel that they are, like, very inspired at the world championships.
13:18Also, last year, they have been in the medal contention until the very last race, until the medal race.
13:24So, if they sail, if they finish this race as they are now, and then have another good one in
13:30the last one,
13:31they will be standing very strong for the medal race tomorrow.
13:35Yes.
13:35Yeah, so, you think maybe GBR9 puts their best showing of the year at the place where it matters the
13:42most,
13:42which is the world championships.
13:43Yeah, they are somehow peaking the worlds very well.
13:48Also, last year and now this year.
13:50Well, they are going to have to be absolutely world class, aren't they?
13:53Because GBR55 is making the running.
13:57And, as we know, only one team from every country gets to go.
14:01So, it's these kind of strong performances that we need to see from GBR9 if they're going to earn selection
14:07for Great Britain,
14:08Los Angeles, two years from now.
14:13There is our walk back through the fleet.
14:17And here is the battle for the lead.
14:19China on the right still leading.
14:21Israel with two boats on the attack, and also GB9, Hannah Bristow and James Taylor, who we've just been talking
14:28about,
14:29who had a good race just earlier.
14:32And it looks like they might be heading for another good race.
14:35They were third in the previous race, and they have every chance of making the top three in this race,
14:40the way they're sailing.
14:41The British have jibed away.
14:43The Israelis are in a little bit of an Israel match race right now,
14:50and China still further off to the right, still leading.
14:56I don't know how much Israel are engaged in a battle,
15:00but do you think they're helping each other or hurting each other?
15:03No, when you sail next to your compatriot, you don't want to let them beat you.
15:08So I think it's full on the fight between them.
15:12Now, but jokes aside, next to them, it's a young Korean team,
15:18Lina and Se-young, and they caught my eye now because they attended the pre-world clinic,
15:26which was held for the teams from the smaller nations, from smaller 470 nations, if you like.
15:33And they are a very promising young team,
15:36and here they show that they can fight with the best in the senior fleet.
15:41Oh, well, that's super encouraging for them.
15:44So clearly they learned some things in that training camp.
15:48And were you one of the mentors, one of the coaches for that, Igor?
15:51Yeah, I was leading the clinic.
15:54I'm not saying I have anything to do with their good performance.
15:56Hopefully it did help a bit.
15:58But yeah, they are, as I said, a very talented team,
16:01and they like to push the boat as well.
16:04And yeah, I see a good future ahead of them.
16:08Now, when you've won an Olympic gold medal, as you have done,
16:11you know the secrets.
16:13And maybe you know that the secret is that there are no secrets.
16:16You've just got to be a little bit better at everything.
16:19But what is the answer if you're prepared to share those secrets?
16:22What are the kind of things that you can tell the Korean sailors on one of those training camps,
16:27things maybe that they didn't know?
16:31No, it was a very short camp, and we couldn't touch all the topics,
16:37at least not deeply.
16:39But for them, as they come from a country where the fleet is not so big,
16:44their biggest struggle, and then we have seen it also this week,
16:48where the starts, starts in the big fleet,
16:50and we worked on that, and we discussed that a lot.
16:54And I think it helped them for sure.
16:58But yeah, there's still a lot for them to go,
17:02to feel comfortable starting in a big fleet.
17:05Meanwhile, Israel has turned the tables on China,
17:08and the two Israeli teams having that battle with each other,
17:12which I wondered if it would slow each other down.
17:14It looks like they've actually pushed each other on past the Chinese,
17:18and now it's an Israel 1-2.
17:21And I just wondered if there was a little bit more breeze,
17:25and you look at the Israeli boat in the middle of the picture right now,
17:28Israel 15, they've got a real turn of speed there.
17:30Do you think China missed out on the best breeze
17:32where they were further to Lourdes on the previous drive?
17:36Yeah, for sure.
17:37I mean, now looking, it's easy to, yeah,
17:39but for sure they missed a bit of the breeze there,
17:42and then Israel is just sailing away into a handy lead.
17:46And now 1-2-1, Israel 1-2-1 at the bottom of the picture
17:49has a surge of speed,
17:51and I don't know if it's driven by the wind
17:53or if it's that big rolling Pacific swell
17:57that you almost can't see at this level,
18:00and actually even at sea level.
18:01It's not like it was yesterday.
18:03I thought yesterday you could really see
18:05those big, long rolling waves
18:08rolling underneath the whole race course.
18:10It looks like it's less of an effect today,
18:13but the Israel teams are having bursts of speed
18:16and then they're going a bit slower
18:18and then bursts of speed.
18:19What do you think is going on there?
18:22Yeah, well, they are changing the modes all the time.
18:24As I said, you know,
18:26you decided a bit on the fleet around you,
18:29on the waves ahead of you,
18:31on the puff sloughs,
18:32so many things influence the call of your modes.
18:36Well, it's certainly gone very well for Israel
18:38down this first run of race five in Goldfleet
18:43and Israel 1-2-1 and 15
18:46have both got their kites down quite early,
18:48surprisingly early,
18:50but they've got enough of a lead
18:51that maybe they can afford to do that.
18:53Roy Levy and Ariel Gold choose the left-hand gate mark
18:57and their teammates from Israel
19:00choose the same gate mark.
19:01In fact, all the leaders seem to be going
19:04for this gate mark,
19:06except maybe Korea, Korea in fifth place
19:09going for the far gate mark,
19:10which we can't see in this shot.
19:12Norway with a late drop here.
19:13Let's see if Norway has time
19:15to get the kite stowed before the jibe.
19:18Looks like they did.
19:20That was a great bit of boat handling there
19:23by the Norwegians.
19:27And Germany 11 in the fight
19:29with a good mark rounding as well
19:31and a bit of a gain for ESP 44,
19:35I would think.
19:36I think maybe they've climbed up
19:38a little bit here
19:38and now we're really getting
19:40into the busy part of competition
19:42and for a change,
19:43GBR 55 just to the right of your picture
19:47is caught up in the traffic.
19:48This is something that they're not used to.
19:50They've been sailing around in clear air
19:52at the front of the fleet a lot of the time,
19:53but it's looking really busy
19:55and you can see how the leaders
19:57can really stretch away
19:59from the rest of the fleet
20:00because everyone is slowing each other up
20:02in the traffic jam
20:02of getting through the leeward gate.
20:05It's a really critical time
20:06in the race, isn't it, Igor?
20:08Yeah, exactly.
20:09Exactly.
20:09Those mark roundings are where you
20:12win a lot or lose a lot.
20:15And yeah, it looks like this
20:18left-hand gate mark looking up
20:19was quite busy,
20:22quite a lot of traffic,
20:23a lot of people were sailing
20:26after the mark
20:27or are sailing still
20:29slow and high
20:30and I think
20:31they are suffering
20:33long-term.
20:35Yeah.
20:37It seems like
20:39the vast majority
20:40have gone round one mark
20:41and they obviously think
20:42that going round the other mark
20:43is too far to sail,
20:45but I see that
20:45AIN2 has gone round
20:47the opposite mark.
20:48Sometimes that's
20:49the smart place to go,
20:51isn't it,
20:51to go to the unfavored mark?
20:53Yeah, I mean,
20:54if the difference,
20:55if the bias of one mark
20:57is not big
20:59relative to the other one,
21:00if the other mark
21:02has less traffic,
21:04it's worth
21:05to go around that one
21:06and have a clear lane
21:07and easier opening
21:10of the next leg.
21:13Excellent.
21:14Well, meanwhile,
21:15as the battle
21:16has just finished
21:17at the bottom
21:17of the course,
21:18there's Ukraine 22.
21:20Oh,
21:21I thought they were
21:22going to do a spin,
21:23but no,
21:23they went for attack
21:24and a duck.
21:25So, obviously,
21:25have seen something
21:26on the right-hand side
21:27that they really
21:28want to go for,
21:30but here we are
21:31back with the race leaders,
21:33Israel 1-2-1.
21:34Roy Levy
21:35and Ariel Garland.
21:37Igor,
21:37this is a team
21:38that's done very well
21:39at youth level,
21:40junior level,
21:41is that right?
21:41Yeah, exactly.
21:42They have been
21:43junior world champions
21:44last year
21:45and they are
21:47medalists
21:47from the Europeans
21:48as well
21:49and this year
21:50youth events.
21:52So, they are
21:52a very strong
21:54junior team
21:55and, again,
21:57showing that
21:57they are fighting
21:59very well
22:00with the senior guys
22:01and here,
22:02Roy took opportunity
22:04to wave
22:04to the drone camera.
22:06He's enjoying
22:07the moment.
22:08Do you think
22:08Roy is waving
22:09to say hello
22:10to his parents
22:11or is he waving
22:12the drone away?
22:13Oh, he is.
22:13No, no, no.
22:14He's waving.
22:15He was smiling,
22:15so he's enjoying
22:16the moment.
22:17That's good.
22:18That's so nice
22:18to see, yeah.
22:21And this drone
22:22is delivering
22:23the kind of shots
22:25that helicopters
22:26have never been
22:26able to give us
22:27because if a helicopter
22:29had been hovering
22:30there and Roy
22:31had been waving,
22:32he might not
22:32have been so happy
22:34about the helicopter
22:36being there.
22:38But the drone
22:39is bringing us
22:40some fantastic imagery
22:42here from Enoshima.
22:45We're on the second
22:47but last day
22:48of the World Championships.
22:49It's been a long,
22:51hard week mentally
22:52and physically
22:53for the teams
22:54and it's all
22:55building up
22:55to the final
22:56tomorrow
22:57for these mixed teams
22:59to decide
22:59who will take
23:01the gold,
23:02silver and bronze
23:03on the podium
23:03on the steps
23:04of the prize giving
23:06in Enoshima
23:07tomorrow afternoon
23:08after we've had
23:10the two medal races
23:11for the top 10.
23:13So today,
23:14this race
23:14and the race
23:14that's coming after
23:15it is all about
23:17maintaining your
23:18fight to get
23:19into the top 10.
23:22And Israel 1-2-1,
23:23well, this is what
23:24they need to do,
23:25isn't it?
23:25Because they
23:27currently are
23:27outside the top 10.
23:29If they could have
23:31a win here
23:32and another score
23:33like that,
23:33maybe it would be
23:34enough to get
23:35Roy Levy
23:36and Ariel Gull
23:37into the top 10,
23:38but they've got
23:38a lot of work to do.
23:42And Portugal,
23:44sorry, you go.
23:45No, exactly.
23:46And yeah,
23:47it's,
23:48I mean,
23:48they are in lead,
23:49but it's very open race
23:50and there is another one
23:51that is,
23:53it's going to be
23:54as open as this one
23:55because the wind
23:56is coming offshore
23:57and it's quite tricky.
23:59So,
24:00yeah,
24:00I think they're also
24:01taking it race by race.
24:03You don't want to
24:04think too much advance.
24:05No, you don't.
24:06There's so much
24:07to think about
24:07in the moment
24:08and right now
24:09it looks to me
24:10like the wind
24:11has dropped a bit
24:12and if you're
24:13Germany 11
24:14front of picture
24:15looking over your
24:16shoulder at China 1
24:17I think you'd be
24:17a bit worried
24:18because China 1
24:20looks like
24:21they're pointing
24:21about 5 degrees
24:22higher.
24:23So,
24:24slightly better wind
24:25for China
24:27on the
24:28going out
24:28left of screen
24:30but not much
24:31that the Germans
24:32here can do
24:33about that.
24:34They've got to
24:34work with
24:35what they've
24:35got in the
24:36moment.
24:39There meanwhile
24:40is
24:42Israel 121
24:44at the front
24:45still going
24:46along quite
24:47nicely.
24:47That wake
24:47suggests they've
24:48got quite good
24:49wind
24:49as they come
24:51towards the
24:52windward mark
24:52for the second
24:53time
24:54and they look
24:56to have extended
24:56their lead
24:57so this is going
24:58really well for
24:59Roy Levy
24:59an aerial gull.
25:01Let's see
25:01which way
25:02they decide
25:03to hoist
25:04the spinnaker.
25:05It's going to
25:05be a straight
25:06hoist on
25:06starboard
25:09and GBR9
25:11that's been a
25:12good beat
25:13for them.
25:13They've risen
25:14to Hannah
25:15Bristow and
25:15James Taylor
25:16up to
25:16second place.
25:18They were
25:19always in the
25:20hunt down the
25:21previous run
25:21but whatever
25:22they've done up
25:23this beat has
25:23gone well for
25:24them.
25:24and just going
25:25out of picture
25:26on the right
25:26I see Sweden
25:27349
25:28so they must
25:29have had a
25:30good windward
25:31leg as well
25:31because
25:31they look
25:33at the
25:33tracker
25:33they had
25:34a massive
25:36comeback
25:36from the
25:36right side.
25:38You know
25:38when we were
25:39looking at
25:39the bottom
25:40gate
25:40they were
25:41one of the
25:42teams going
25:42to the
25:42less busy
25:44mark
25:44and they
25:46went to
25:47the right
25:47side
25:47and it
25:48paid a
25:49lot for
25:49them.
25:50Interesting.
25:51Good
25:51comeback.
25:52Yeah
25:52so sailing
25:54that extra
25:54distance
25:55to that
25:56further
25:57mark
25:57at the
25:58bottom
25:58of the
25:58course
25:58has worked
25:59out
25:59really
25:59well
26:00for
26:00Sweden
26:00and
26:01maybe
26:01for
26:01some
26:02other
26:02teams
26:02that
26:02did
26:03that
26:03as
26:03well.
26:03I'm wondering
26:04what
26:04Italy 6
26:05did
26:06because
26:06Elena Berta
26:07and Giulio
26:08Calabro
26:08are now
26:09up into
26:09third place
26:10so that's
26:10been a
26:11good gain
26:11for
26:11Italy
26:12to get
26:12up
26:12into
26:12third.
26:16And we
26:17see that
26:17Israeli
26:18teams are
26:19not
26:21in the
26:21lead
26:22so
26:23Israel
26:2415
26:27looks like
26:28they lost
26:28quite a
26:29bit in
26:29this
26:29leg.
26:30Whereas
26:31we just
26:31saw the
26:32yellow
26:32bibs of
26:33GBR
26:3355 go
26:34around
26:34there
26:35go
26:35around
26:35in
26:3510th
26:36place
26:36so
26:37they're
26:37salvaging
26:38a good
26:39score
26:39after a
26:40poor start
26:41to the
26:41race
26:41so that's
26:42really good
26:42solid
26:43sailing
26:43by
26:43Martijn
26:44Wrigley
26:44and
26:45Bertine
26:46Harris
26:46to get
26:46themselves
26:47up into
26:47the top
26:4710 at
26:48this
26:48stage
26:48and here
26:49is ESP44
26:50the defending
26:51world champions
26:52from Spain
26:53who have not
26:54managed to
26:55make such
26:55good progress
27:04and you can
27:05see it's
27:06pretty light
27:07at the
27:07moment
27:10Germany
27:1111
27:11oh dear
27:12Germany
27:1211
27:13not having
27:14a good
27:15race
27:16after
27:16briefly
27:17having held
27:19the lead
27:19earlier on
27:21soon out
27:22of the start
27:22they were
27:23holding the
27:23lead but
27:23not going
27:24so well
27:24for Germany
27:2511
27:25Switzerland
27:263
27:26and Italy
27:283
27:28also
27:29struggling
27:29towards
27:30the back
27:31of the
27:31pack
27:33and also
27:34Portuguese
27:36Diogo and
27:37Carolina
27:37Portugal 21
27:38they are
27:39at the
27:40moment
27:40having
27:40quite
27:40tough
27:41day
27:42with
27:43both
27:43races
27:44around
27:44the
27:4420th
27:45and
27:45they
27:46will
27:46need
27:47to
27:47dig
27:47deep
27:47in
27:47the
27:48third
27:48race
27:48if
27:48they
27:48want
27:49to
27:49stay
27:49in
27:49the
27:50middle
27:50race
27:51yes
27:51yesterday
27:52seemed to
27:53be talking
27:53a lot
27:53about
27:54the
27:54two
27:54Portuguese
27:55boats
27:56they were
27:56both
27:56having
27:57good
27:58days
27:58near the
27:59front
27:59of the
27:59fleet
27:59but
28:00it
28:00looks
28:00to be
28:00more
28:01of a
28:01struggle
28:01today
28:01for
28:02Portugal
28:03meanwhile
28:03it's
28:04been
28:05a good
28:05day
28:05for
28:06Israel
28:06for a
28:07time
28:07we had
28:08a
28:08first
28:08and a
28:08second
28:09for
28:09Israel
28:09but
28:09I
28:09see
28:10that
28:10Israel
28:1015
28:10has
28:11not
28:11managed
28:11to
28:11hold
28:12on
28:12to
28:12that
28:12and
28:12has
28:12now
28:13dropped
28:13down
28:14to
28:1410th
28:14place
28:15so
28:17I
28:19think
28:19they're
28:19the

28:20actually
28:20aren't
28:20they

28:24of the
28:24two
28:24Israeli
28:25teams
28:26yeah
28:26for sure
28:27they are

28:43that
28:44much
28:44different
28:44to

28:45so
28:45it's
28:46quite

28:48so
28:48we
28:48could

30:51so they are
30:52probably around
30:5212-13 in this race
30:54at the moment
30:55so well done for them
30:56yes those
30:57those 12s
30:58matter just as much
30:59as those glamorous
31:00race wins
31:01so
31:02exactly
31:02exactly
31:03a good recovery
31:05for the
31:06yellow bib
31:07wearers and
31:07they're probably
31:08doing enough
31:08just about
31:09to hold on
31:10to the
31:10yellow bib
31:10and there's
31:11a close-up
31:12shot
31:12of
31:13Hannah
31:14Bristow
31:14and James
31:14Taylor
31:15who were
31:15second
31:15in that
31:16race
31:17and now
31:17coming across
31:18the line
31:18France 10
31:19and then
31:20ESP
31:2044
31:21wearing
31:22the red
31:22bibs
31:23just
31:23not quite
31:25seeing the
31:25best of
31:26the Spanish
31:27team today
31:28the reigning
31:29world champions
31:30they're struggling
31:31somewhat
31:32a little bit
31:32more than I
31:33would have
31:33expected
31:36and there
31:37is Japan
31:384-7
31:392-3
31:40really good
31:41scores by
31:42Shokaminaki
31:42and Amane
31:43Nagai
31:44getting
31:44a second
31:45and a third
31:46so far
31:47and then
31:48here is
31:49the back
31:50of the fleet
31:51but still
31:51a lot of
31:52battling going
31:52on
31:53I see
31:53Portugal
31:5321
31:54Italy
31:553
31:57some of
31:58the boats
31:58that we're
31:59often talking
31:59about
32:00as being
32:00leading
32:01contenders
32:01up near
32:02the front
32:02of the
32:02fleet
32:02but it's
32:03it's been
32:04a battle
32:04to hold
32:05on to
32:06whatever
32:06points
32:06you can
32:07towards
32:07the back
32:08of the
32:08fleet
32:08so
32:09disappointment
32:10for those
32:10teams
32:11in amongst
32:12a bunch
32:12of the
32:13Japanese
32:13boats
32:13including
32:14Japan
32:1422
32:15who have
32:16been
32:16the best
32:17of the
32:17Japanese
32:17this week
32:18Tetsuya
32:18Isosaki
32:19and
32:20Yuriseki
32:21fighting
32:23in amongst
32:24the podium
32:24spots
32:25but that
32:26result there
32:26is not
32:27going to
32:27help them
32:27an awful
32:27lot
32:29and also
32:30in the
32:30previous
32:30race
32:31they were
32:32called
32:32the black
32:33flag
32:33so
32:33for the
32:34moment
32:34they are
32:35not having
32:35a good
32:35day
32:36in the
32:36office
32:37oh dear
32:38oh dear
32:38so yes
32:40they need
32:40to pull
32:40their socks
32:41up
32:41for the
32:42last
32:42race
32:46yeah

32:47want to
32:47have a
32:48medal
