00:00But after further review, it wasn't how many passes Fields caught that should have Giants fans excited.
00:05It was how he caught them.
00:07Because Saturday may have given us our first look at something this Giants offense has been missing.
00:12Early in the second quarter, Jackson Dart escaped pressure, rolled to his left, and threw across his body.
00:17Fields wasn't even the primary read, but once the play broke down, he found space in the end zone,
00:23and Dart did something quarterbacks can do when they trust a big receiver.
00:27He gave him a chance.
00:28Fields went up, over the defender, extended his arms, and finished the 15-yard touchdown.
00:33Now, let's be clear.
00:34This was one preseason game.
00:36Three catches don't tell us that Malachi Fields is ready to become a star.
00:40And they certainly don't tell us what his role will look like once the Giants have their full receiving core
00:45on the field.
00:46But that's not what we're trying to determine yet.
00:49The question is whether Fields possesses a trait that can translate when the games actually count.
00:54And Saturday gave us some evidence that he does.
