Máquina! - Why? 1970 (Spain, Proto-Prog)
Maquina! is Spanish, from Barcelona, and this is their debut album. Founded in 1969 by the trio Batiste/Cerrera/Cabanach, it has had several lineups, despite its short lifespan. "Why?" is considered by many to be Spain's best prog album, even though it's not quite that prog. It's more psychedelic rock with long jams, where the organ predominates, and the guitar is full of fuzz and wah-wah. The song is sung in English. This version appears to have been edited from an LP, but the reproduction quality is excellent. "Why?" is also known as the "croissant album," and Salvador Dali himself is said to have praised its cover.
