00:00Myanmar has seen increased violence and war crimes over the past year, according to UN investigators.
00:05The Independent Investigative Mechanism for Myanmar, or IIMM,
00:10says the military stepped up aerial attacks on civilians ahead of last year's election,
00:14while all sides in the country's civil war committed war crimes and serious abuses.
00:21Investigators documented a pattern of deliberate aerial attacks on homes, schools, medical facilities,
00:27religious buildings and camps for internally displaced people,
00:31with a notable spike in the months before the election.
00:35They found the junta's use of motorized power gliders and drones
00:39made attacks harder for civilians to anticipate, leaving them less time to flee or find shelter.
00:46The report also documented arbitrary detention, torture and sexual violence in military-run facilities,
00:53while investigators are also examining similar allegations against anti-junta armed groups.
00:59Myanmar has been in civil war since the 2021 military coup
01:02that ousted the elected government led by Aung San Suu Kyi.
01:05The conflict has killed over 100,000 people and displaced millions.
