Myanmar has presented its defence at the International Court of Justice in The Hague, rejecting allegations that it committed genocide against the Rohingya Muslim minority.
Addressing the court, Myanmar’s agent said The Gambia failed to meet the burden of proof and relied on what he called partisan and unreliable evidence. Myanmar argued its military actions in northern Rakhine State followed terrorist attacks in 2016 and 2017 and were legitimate counter-terrorism operations, not acts of genocide.
