00:00Daily devotional. Monday, August 10th. Your refuge in the storm. Today's scripture. God is our refuge
00:07and strength, a very present help in trouble. Psalm 46.1. Life can change without warning.
00:16One phone call, one unexpected problem, one difficult diagnosis, one financial burden,
00:22or one painful conversation can suddenly leave us wondering what to do next. Psalm 46.1 doesn't
00:31promise that God's people will never experience trouble. Instead, it gives us something even more
00:38comforting. When trouble comes, God is already there. The psalmist calls God our refuge. A refuge
00:48is a safe place, a shelter where we can run when the storm becomes too much to face on our
00:55own.
00:56God doesn't simply point us toward safety. He himself is our refuge. He is also our strength.
01:04There will be moments when our own strength simply isn't enough. We may feel emotionally exhausted,
01:12spiritually discouraged, or uncertain about what tomorrow holds. But God never asks us to manufacture
01:20strength we don't have. He invites us to depend upon his. And notice those beautiful words,
01:29a very present help in trouble. God is not distant from your struggle. He isn't watching your life from
01:37somewhere far away. He is present right now, in the waiting, in the uncertainty, in the tears,
01:45and even in circumstances you don't understand. You may not know how everything will work out,
01:52but you can know who is with you while you walk through it. Whatever you're carrying today,
01:58you don't have to carry it alone. Run to God instead of allowing fear to consume you.
02:05Tell him what hurts. Tell him what frightens you. Tell him where you need strength. The storm may be
02:14bigger than you, but it will never be bigger than the God who is your refuge. Heavenly Father,
02:21thank you for being my refuge and my strength. When life feels uncertain and trouble surrounds me,
02:28help me remember that you are near. When I feel weak, give me your strength.
02:35When fear fills my thoughts, draw me into the safety of your presence. Help me stop trying to carry
02:42every burden by myself and teach me to place my trust completely in you. Whatever I face today,
02:51remind me that I never face it alone because you are my very present help. In Jesus' name,
02:59amen. What burden or situation are you trying to handle in your own strength that you need to bring
03:08into the refuge of God's presence today? Today's truth. God doesn't promise a life without trouble,
03:16but he promises that in the middle of our trouble, he will be our refuge, our strength,
03:22and our ever-present help. Leave an amen if you're trusting God to be your refuge and strength today.
