00:06Mr. Secretary, I can tell you, I am a Scottish Huguenot from South Carolina, and it's hot today.
00:13So it's great to be with you all. And the first C-17 to come to Charleston Air Force Base
00:21was called the Spirit of Charleston.
00:23And I feel today, as we transition the name to Joint Base Lindsey Graham, that the Spirit of Charleston is
00:31with us.
00:33One of my ancestors fought with Francis Marion, the Swamp Fox, which I think I'm going to get in trouble
00:41here, is also my Secret Service name.
00:45And when I chose it, I didn't realize it had two meanings.
00:50So, but I can tell you that everybody who came before you all would be so proud to see you
00:58all standing here on the 250th anniversary of our great country.
01:03And Senator Graham loved the military.
01:07And at the end of the day, that no matter where he went, he was just that young man who
01:14was in the Air Force and from Central South Carolina.
01:17I saw him in Ankara, Turkey at the NATO summit on the Tuesday, passed away on Saturday, and he was
01:26at the table next to me.
01:27And he leaned over and he said, Scott, what the F are we doing here?
01:32You're from Little River and I am from Central South Carolina, but here we are.
01:37So I think he would be so proud when I travel the world and I see these C-17s sitting
01:44at the bases or in quieter days when I lived here in Charleston and I'd sit on my side porch
01:51overlooking Charleston Harbor.
01:52And I'd see these great planes come in and know that it was all of you and they were coming,
01:59supplying the world, moving troops, moving supplies, moving munitions.
02:04And whether it come from the Middle East, I know that this base was largely responsible for the evacuation out
02:12of Kabul, the two weeks.
02:14And one of the pilots said, sir, we had 30 hour days.
02:19And I said, well, how does that work?
02:20And he said, the time zone change.
02:23So congratulations to all of you and thank you for what you do.
02:27What we do at Treasury is when I look, someone asked me, other than Alexander Hamilton, who are the great
02:34Treasury secretaries?
02:36And they were the ones who financed the wars.
02:38It was Salman Chase who financed the U.S. against the Confederacy.
02:45Secretary Morgenthau, who raised the money that the U.S. saved the world during World War Two.
02:51And as the secretary said, peace through strength, I hope that I will never have to go down in history
02:59as having to raise the money to save the world.
03:03Because everything you all did in advance is so important that that peace through strength, from whether it's Midnight Hammer,
03:14Epic Fury, we are showing our adversaries that the United States, we stand up for our allies, we stand up
03:24for our values.
03:24And it is great to be with you all here today.
03:27And now when I travel around the world, I will no longer see Charleston on the planes.
03:34I will see Joint Base Graham.
03:36And I will think of all of you who I met here today.

03:48Well, it is hot, so I'll be brief.
03:51I go back to those Huguenot days myself.
03:53You're not the only one.
03:54You're not the only one around here.
03:55The history of South Carolina is remarkable.
03:58We go all the way back.
03:59A lot of British generals that back in the 1700s, it went back to merry old England wondering what in
04:08the world happened in the Revolutionary War.
04:10We know that it was won right here.
04:13Somewhere between 200 and 400 skirmishes and battles.
04:17I guess those generals, they're whispering the names of Pickens, Sumter, and Marion over and over.
04:24But it's because of the men and women here and the men and women who came here to fight.
04:29But you can't fight.
04:31But you can't fight.
04:31You can't be strong if you have – if you do not have a good team behind you, someone that
04:37will support you in what you need to do in this most dangerous of all worlds.
04:43And I can tell you, I've been in and out of public service for a lot of years and been
04:49in this position for almost 10.
04:51And I have never seen a better team led by a better president.
04:55The whole team, these men, Secretary Hague Seth, Secretary Besant, and all the others, that is a grand team.
