00:00Well, folks, I'm up in the attic here at Shea Hudson doing a bit of renovation, and we're taking out
00:05some old nasty hard board stud walls that used to hide away our old water tank.
00:11This is what I want to share with you.
00:14Have a look at that.
00:18Now that is part of the original build of this house, which dates back to about 1580.
00:24So the carpenters that made this, that built it, were probably talking about the latest scandal concerning Queen Elizabeth I,
00:33can you believe?
00:34But what's really fascinating is this.
00:36If you look at this door, which I think is made of elm, which you usually tell of it's elm
00:39by how broad the boards are.
00:41But look at this.
00:43One, two, three, four, five keyholes.
00:48Five keyholes for five separate locks.
00:51And probably five separate owners.
00:54Because back in the day, when you moved house, you didn't take the door with you.
00:58You took the lock, because the lock was the most valuable thing.
01:02And if you were lucky enough to own a lock, well, you were probably getting somewhere.
01:07It's all part and parcel of the fascinating journey we've been on in understanding the story of this fabulous old
01:14building.
01:14And once those horrible walls behind me have gone, and light pours through the window, this wall will once more
01:20see the light of day.
01:21Something it has not done, I suspect, for the best part of a century.
01:25But when it does, it can tell its story.
