00:00If men went through menopause, this would have been figured out, and you know it's true.
00:06Oh, it's true. But it makes me kind of angry, I have to say, to know every woman is going
00:10to go
00:10through this, but yet, like so many things, the medical profession is focused on men.
00:16Only 13% of doctors even understand the menopausal body, so they can't even help, really.
00:21There's a research component to this.
00:23Well, until 1993, women weren't even using clinical studies. It was only men.
00:27Yeah. So how could we possibly understand what we need when we weren't even a part of the study?
00:32Women in their 30s, if they knew how to arrive into their menopausal and perimenopausal years
00:38in a better way, they would if they knew. But we need research so we can document and get the
00:44word
00:44out to them. So that's the thing. I mean, people are going to a doctor, they're retooling the medical
00:49profession. It's like, damn it, this is affecting more than half the population, and you don't know
00:54anything about it. So there has to be research, awareness, and better education and training for
01:00people in the medical profession.
01:01Yes. And that's going to also, though, take money, and this is the problem.
01:04Right. It's frustrating to me that we have not made the investments in women's health in general.
01:09I was stunned when you and others had brought to me just the raw data of how much lack of
01:14research,
01:15investment, and training there is.
01:17There's $1.8 billion lost every year because women have to take off work, you know? So that's also a
01:22real
01:22problem. And that's an everybody problem.
01:24Right.
01:24That's just not a woman's health issue. Like, that's a real issue.
01:28Right. But what I love that you say is, like, this is not an act of charity. This is something
01:32that will help women, but it will also help in the workplace. It'll help save on medical costs.
01:38The more you know, the more you can do preventative care. It's just so common sense.
01:43Yes. And it's a human issue. It's really not just a, you know, woman's health issue. It's really not.
01:50Right.
