00:00dementia is difficult it's a challenge but also and I think as you know my dad has mixed dementia
00:06Alzheimer's and vascular dementia what's been an eye-opener for us is that once we've shifted to
00:13adapt it into our lives you can have happy times again so you're learning to live alongside it and
00:19yes you feel like you're standing on shifting sand quite a lot but you can have those lovely
00:24times I took him out for lunch yesterday we put Frank Sinatra in the car and we had a sing
00:28-along
00:28so those connections remain but you're absolutely right you are in many ways saying goodbye to
00:34somebody very incrementally and that's hard the medical side of things talk to his GP about what
00:39was happening his GP said yes it sounds like vascular dementia then you go to a memory clinic
00:43to go through various tests and they say okay off you go we'll see you in six months
00:48and then you're like is that it is that it do we just live with this now and in the
00:52six months that
00:53followed between his first assessment and his second he was putting boxed pizzas in the ovens
00:59he was leaving the house in the middle of the night and you're sort of knocking on doors saying
01:04we need more support we need more help and they say well until we've tested him again in six months
01:09we can't make an official diagnosis so that is incredibly frustrating to the point of a point feeling
01:15dangerous
01:15you
01:16you
01:18you
