00:00I suppose the problem is that because you were health secretary, and because at that time I couldn't visit Derek
00:07in hospital, he couldn't see his kids, thousands of others couldn't go and see the people they loved for various
00:15reasons because they were following the guidelines, and you have to understand it was all very muddled at that point
00:20for us out here in the world, it gives the impression that you still don't get why they're cross.
00:28Oh, I see. You see what I mean? You still don't get why people are upset because that amount of
00:34money is vast to everybody, and I'm sure there are many other people that went into the jungle and you
00:42did that maybe got more, maybe got less, I don't know, but they're holding you to more account because you're
00:49probably only there because you were health secretary at the time making these huge decisions. Do you see what I
00:54mean?
00:54So I think you made the decision to go in at a time before you'd answer to an inquiry and
01:00at a time when people still feel very raw. Can you explain now, because I'm not sure people yet feel
01:07comfortable, why you did it?
01:08Oh, I see. Absolutely. So I get all that. I really do. And I really feel it. And the reason
01:19I think it's important that I wrote the book in particular, with the inquiry coming later, is I have to
01:29be completely open about what I did, why I took the decisions that I did, so that we can learn
01:37as much as possible.
01:38I feel really strongly about that. But what have we learned?
01:41Well, one of the things, if I can contribute anything now to the future of making sure this doesn't happen
01:51as badly again, it's making sure we really, really learn the lessons about how to handle these things, because there
01:57will be another one.
01:58And I feel very strongly about that because I feel like it's my, you know, it's my duty, not leave,
02:05because, you know, we're all human. We all make mistakes.
