00:02Hey, it's Laura Whitmore and I'm joined by Roxanne from Mooncake.
00:06There's something about getting a bunch of flowers that's just extra sentimental and feel extra thoughtful.
00:10These smell beautiful. You can't smell them, but they smell gorgeous.
00:13I don't even know the names of all these flowers. I love yellows.
00:15Yellow is my favourite colour. I love yellow roses.
00:18So you don't have to do a lot of work. So when you get your flower, it is kind of
00:21arranged already.
00:22But it's getting it from this to this and making it last.
00:25It's really easy.
00:26Shall we have a go?
00:27Let's have a go.
00:31So scissors or secateurs, whatever you've got to hand.
00:34And we're going to cut just the cellophane off the outside.
00:38This is a little bit of sellotape. And then you've got one of these as well, which is food.
00:42Flower food. Yep.
00:45So we've got different sized vases.
00:47How is this going to fit in this?
00:50Yeah, we're going to make it happen.
00:51So there's a trick that I kind of taught myself when...
00:54Because you never like, is that going to fit?
00:56That's what I do and I always get it wrong.
00:58So I always take the vase to the end of the table.
01:00Yeah.
01:01And then you can kind of go to eye level to where the vase is.
01:06And you kind of want half vase and half flower.
01:08Yeah.
01:08So yours will need to be quite a lot shorter.
01:11And then mark that roughly with the bottom of your hand.
01:14Yeah.
01:14And then you know that that's where you need to chop your flowers.
01:18Yeah.
01:18Yeah.
01:18Yeah.
01:19Okay.
01:20And if you're not sure, you can always cut it a little bit over and then go in again.
01:24And then cut a little bit.
01:26So we cut them at about a 45 degree angle.
01:29So you do the angle for them to drink the water?
01:32Yeah.
01:32It just means that it's less likely for them to touch the bottom of the vase and then make
01:36a vacuum so they can't get the water.
01:38And it also exposes the most amount of the inside of the stem.
01:43And all of this is in that care leaflet.
01:45So you can always refer to that if you, yeah, if you're not sure.
01:53The garden.
01:54I mean, the poor grass has seen better days now, but my other half is really good at doing
01:58the garden.
02:00So, yeah.
02:01Mark too was out there doing the weeding and things like that.
02:03I think it was a chance people kind of really got back to nature.
02:05I love having flowers in my house.
02:07I love the smell of fresh flowers.
02:09Yeah.
02:10It's uplifting, isn't it?
02:11It's so uplifting.
02:11I think there's nothing nicer than getting someone a bouquet of flowers.
02:14And it doesn't have to be their birthday just for no reason.
02:16It's just such a lovely gift.
02:17Do you do the food or what?
02:18Yeah.
02:19So that's done.
02:19That's good.
02:20Do the food.
02:22So I always add the food after I've added the water to the vase.
02:26Yeah.
02:26If you do it the other way around, you end up with just like foam everywhere.
02:29Yeah, that's happened to me before.
02:32They're having a bubble bath.
02:33Yeah, pretty much.
02:34They just pour it in like that.
02:35Yeah, go for it.
02:37How often should you be changing water for flowers?
02:40Yes.
02:40We put...
02:41We say after three days.
02:43Yeah.
02:43But if it starts to become cloudy sooner, then there's no harm in replenishing it.
02:48Yeah.
02:48I ask my other half to put water and he puts about that much in.
02:51I'm like, a little bit more.
02:52Give them something to drink.
02:53It's surprising how quickly they drink.
02:55So quickly.
02:56So quickly.
02:59Check that you've got them at the right height at this point.
03:02Is that all right?
03:02That looks good.
03:03Yeah.
03:03Lovely.
03:05And then we're going to, whilst holding it with one hand, cut the twine off.
03:11Yeah.
03:12So it keeps that hand-tied effect.
03:17So as far as with a narrower neck you can work with, with this it might stop the bouquet
03:23from splaying out.
03:24And then you just pop it in and let go.
03:27Let it do its thing.
03:28Let it do its thing.
03:29Let it do its thing.
03:29It's actually a huge bouquet, isn't it?
03:31It's really, really big.
03:32You wouldn't actually realise until it's...
03:33Oh, that's beautiful.
03:34And then once you've done that you can spruce with it.
03:37Do a bit of a judge.
03:37Yeah.
03:38You could make it look more wild by taking flowers out.
03:41You could cut them a little bit more.
03:42But you said this is going to open up more.
03:44You want space as well for the roses to bloom.
03:46Exactly.
03:47You don't realise how many are in there.
03:49You could probably take even more off the base if you wanted it to go a little bit more
03:54like that.
03:55Yeah.
03:55You could take some more off.
03:57And it's easy just to then pick it up and you can keep that spiralness.
04:01Yeah.
04:02You don't lose it.
04:03You could cut a little bit more off.
04:05Yeah.
04:05Yep.
04:07Gorgeous.
04:08I love that.
