00:05Welcome to Highclere Castle. I'm Lady Carnarvon and this is my and my husband's family home.
00:11It's also of course Downton Abbey and the Crawley family's family home on the TV series of the same
00:17name. So we've been sharing it with them and many admirers and fans over the six years of the TV
00:24series and of course we're also looking forward to the film that's coming up. The library is a typical
00:31Victorian room created by Charles Barry and finished by Thomas Allum. There are six and a half thousand
00:38books in it and it's also much used again in Downton Abbey. I think Julian Fellows really likes
00:44the room and he sets many of the scenes of Downton Abbey within our library. This was Lord and Lady
00:53Grantham's bedroom. The maid, Lady Grantham's maid, used to pop out of what in fact is a cupboard there.
00:59I have since repainted it because it was quite a interesting blue colour which looked fabulous on
01:04film but was slightly harder to live with in real life. It's now this I think beautiful pearl colour
01:10and it's all been chosen around the bed. It's an 18th century four-poster bed with rather special
01:18embroideries so that is the centrepiece of this particular bedroom.
01:24We have many events here, we welcome many tours here and visitors and we have since 1988. It's an
01:31amazing house, a beautiful house, one which my husband and I love and it sits in the middle of
01:37such a beautiful parkland with the most magnificent trees. I think the setting is as wonderful as the house.
01:48we have
