00:09I was wondering if you can expand on that a little bit.
00:14Yeah, I guess that's about letting the scene kind of breathe.
00:21I always believed that you could turn the sound down and kind of still know what's going on.
00:26It's a subtext of what's going on beyond the words.
00:34Yeah, I was like, that is very true.
00:37Not that the text is not important, but it's really what's going on underneath it.
00:42He called it remarkable, so you got a lasting impression on him.
00:46So you've played fathers in so many different emotional landscapes.
00:49What did you find yourself exploring differently in this film when it came to fatherhood?
00:53Boy, I really have played a lot of dads.
00:58Well, I mean, this is really the most challenging, I think, of all,
01:05because the person, Arthur, he was not a good person.
01:09He was a very abusive father.
01:13He wanted to make amends and ask for forgiveness, you know, that redemption, you know, asking Bart for forgiveness, which
01:25he didn't just take just like that.
01:27But that relationship slowly formed that in those last couple of years of his life that they got close.
01:37And there was some sweetness and some love and caring there and that the gift that Arthur really wound up
01:47giving him was that Bart didn't have to carry that around, you know, for the rest of his life.
01:54It really kind of changed the whole story.
01:57I'm curious if your kids had anything to say after watching you in this film in terms of just how
02:03it affected them.
02:03Well, yeah, they realize that dad's acting, I think, probably the new appreciation for that, because it's a tough role
02:13to do.
02:13How do you tackle a role when you're based on a real person to give that same type of like...
02:18I really, I prefer doing like real people, because their stories are, you know, if they were fiction, you wouldn't
02:25believe them, to tell you the truth.
02:27And the person is usually, you know, right there.
02:33And, you know, I try to do real people, I try to tell it from their point of view, because,
02:43you know, that's all you can do.
02:44And then, you know, the chips fall where they may, but try to tell their story from their point of
02:49view.
