00:01Blitz, Glamour and Dame Judi Dench, this year's BAFTA Britannia Awards were a very British
00:06affair, despite being held slap bang in the middle of Hollywood.
00:10Dench led the list of award winners picking up the Albert R. Cubby Broccoli Award for
00:15Worldwide Contribution in Entertainment, which was presented to her by Dustin Hoffman.
00:20And fellow Brit Emma Watson was named Britannia British Artist of the Year.
00:24Hollywood wild man Robert Downey Jr. picked up the Stanley Kubrick Award for Excellence
00:30in Film, and the Iron Man star, who has worked with many of Britannia's time on films such
00:35as Sherlock, was full of insight about what it's like working across the Atlantic.
00:40Well, I mean, Susan and I talk about this all the time because we've worked in the UK so
00:44much and we have so many friends, you know, with the guy Richie or Drew Larges, I mean,
00:49droves of folks, and we find it very civilising to work with Brits.
00:53I mean, here's an example. We'd go over and we'd have a script meeting, we'd say alright,
00:57let's get down to business, and it just seems like nobody was like feeling it. So we'd put
01:01out a little cheese and some tea and all of a sudden they'll stay for six hours. It's
01:06just about, you know, just…
01:08A little bit of respect and tradition.
01:10Respect and tradition. That.
01:12Despite a heavily British feel, top US Hollywood talent was also out in force, adding a certain
01:17buzz to an already star-packed red carpet. And amongst it all, veteran British director,
01:23Mike Lee, the Mr. Turner filmmaker, picked up the award for excellence in directing and
01:28spoke modestly in true Brit style about what such accolade meant.
01:32Yes, it is. It's a great honour and it's great to get the award, this prize or whatever you
01:37call it. In the end, it's all about the audiences and the film. But awards like this are great
01:43because it means that people appreciate what one does and it means that you don't feel
01:48you've been wasting years and years and years slaving away at the coalface. It's great.
01:57The BAFTA Los Angeles Jaguar Britannia Awards, which took place at the Beverly Hilton Hotel,
02:03will air on BBC America on November 2nd.
