00:40Welcome to Sports Scene on week two of the Premiership season.
00:44Later, we'll have highlights of St Mirren's clash with St Johnston, but first it's Dundee
00:48against Aberdeen, and who could forget the Dons' dramatic opener last weekend.
00:54As Hearts look to kickstart their season.
01:01Three and four, most of the season than last.
01:06And knocked off!
01:08Hearts of the lead is Hoshin McIntyre!
01:14Still pressing.
01:17He just faces around the tawdry.
01:22She's bundled in, and Aberdeen have their equaliser.
01:28Well, Lausanne goes down, and the referee is awarded a penalty.
01:34And it's Nesbitt who scores emphatically.
01:39A late turnaround.
01:48Dundee's win over Aberdeen on the final day of last season is a marker for both these clubs
01:53for how far they've come since May.
01:56The Dons are looking to go six from six this season.
01:59Well, Dens was the source of most of Dundee's points last term, and they get up and running
02:04at home.
02:08Well, Dundee put in an encouraging performance in defeat at Celtic Park, so Stephen Presley
02:12opts with the same aggressive starting 11.
02:15Wright, Wesley and Ashley all scored in the 3-2 win over Aberdeen here in May.
02:22Aberdeen are forced into two midfield changes because Brad Lyons and Conor Ronan are injured.
02:27In come Alexander Breedle for his first Premiership start.
02:30Along with Stuart Armstrong, Tony Yogan faces the club he played for last season.
02:40Jay Wright into Wesley.
02:42Hoops it forward towards Joe Bevin.
02:44Oh, and it's given away by Aberdeen.
02:46Here's a chance for Bevin!
02:50He drags his shot past the post.
02:54And he feels he should.
02:57At least made Muller work for it.
03:03Good pestering from the Dundee forwards.
03:10Muller waits for an option.
03:12Yogan provides it towards Nisbet.
03:14Armstrong's on the second ball, but Dundee have won it.
03:17Finnegan finds Riley.
03:19Riley, Riley, a lot of space to work with here.
03:23Pokes it to Bevin.
03:25He's already had one opportunity.
03:28Bevin into dangerous area and Wesley finds it back in the net.
03:33Brilliant Dundee goal.
03:35And Aberdeen have already had a warning with Bevin's early sighter.
03:40And again, it comes down.
03:45The right-hand side.
03:47Bevin getting it onto the left foot.
03:49It's a delicious ball then.
03:52So inviting for Joe Wesley.
03:56To just...
03:59Step onto it.
04:01And he just guides the ball past Muller.
04:13One by Guinness Walker.
04:17Renew.
04:18Given away by Aberdeen.
04:20And now Wesley.
04:21Quickest to react for 2-0.
04:23Muller to the rescue for Aberdeen.
04:25But it's still alive for Dundee.
04:27Wesley.
04:27Cross blocked.
04:29But it falls for Murray.
04:31And with Simon Murray, you're just expecting him to thrash that into the back of the net.
04:38So poor from Aberdeen.
04:40Wesley alive to it.
04:41The finish lacked conviction though.
04:43In contrast to the goal he scored earlier.
04:46And it drops to Murray.
04:47Slightly awkward height.
04:48Never catches it fully.
04:52Flipped on to Bevin.
04:54Happy.
04:56It's a well-timed challenge.
04:58Quickly taken to Dre Wright.
05:01Wright.
05:01Out to Murray.
05:02He's got Charlie Riley in support.
05:06But it was always rising.
05:09Off the boot of the Dundee winger.
05:14Dundee just looking to up the tempo.
05:16And they find gaps in the Aberdeen backline again.
05:23Owen Bevin's leap and header.
05:27Nisbet for Olesanya.
05:30Here's Joghan.
05:33Joghan.
05:36He'll accept the corner.
05:45Hoisted to the back post.
05:47Happy's header.
05:48Comes off the crossbar and somehow stays out.
05:53Armstrong keeps it alive.
05:54It comes back in and Happy's header.
05:57He's well off target.
06:00Well Aberdeen have created virtually nothing in this first half so far.
06:04But they go so close to levelling.
06:07Happy around the back.
06:08The six foot six centre back.
06:11Comes off the bar.
06:13Dundee are able to just scramble it away.
06:18It's Goodman that touches it onto the crossbar.
06:25Lastly for Bevan again.
06:27And Bevan's away from Guinness Walker.
06:29It's Joe Bevan.
06:31So close to two.
06:35Wesley was screaming for a cutback.
06:40But he has been the man all afternoon for Dundee making those runs.
06:47His speeds and intelligence takes him away from Guinness Walker.
06:51He had everything but the finish.
06:56There you go.
07:04Good challenge.
07:06Now it's Hamilton.
07:07He can hit them that's for sure.
07:10But he finds Bevan.
07:11The man in form.
07:12It's Joe Bevan.
07:15Muller with a good diving stop.
07:18Reilly sends it back in.
07:20Happy away.
07:22And Finnegan on the volley.
07:27Finally the danger comes to an end for Aberdeen.
07:31Marius Muller screaming at his teammates.
07:33And no wonder.
07:35Hamilton powering forwards.
07:38Bevan again in so much room.
07:40Gets it onto the left foot.
07:42Muller was watchful.
07:43Sprung into action.
07:45Does everything right really.
07:47Still in Dresden with a little seat of his own.
07:57Olazana will chase and he gets there.
07:59And then goes down.
08:01Goodman.
08:03Rolls the arms out.
08:04And the referee uninterested in Toyota Olazana's claims for a penalty.
08:11Not so on it but not a whole lot Goodman could do to get out of the way there when
08:16he was to make the challenge.
08:19Purell.
08:20Nothing really in it.
08:26Brito.
08:27Pulling away to right.
08:29Now it's Simon Murray.
08:31Dundee would love a second goal.
08:33The play has certainly merited it.
08:35Over the course of the game so far.
08:42Riley.
08:46Tess Cadden again.
08:48Takes a neck off the Aberdeen defender.
08:50Happy away.
08:52And it's given straight to Hamilton.
08:55Wesley.
08:56Riley.
08:57Looking for Hamilton.
08:59And it bounces for Bevan.
09:01And it is 2-0.
09:05And Joel Bevan gets the goal.
09:08His play thoroughly deserves.
09:13Aberdeen caught in possession again.
09:15And Dundee.
09:16Keep them hemmed in.
09:18Weak header away.
09:20And Bevan.
09:23Does really well to get the power in his strike while keeping it down.
09:29Muller was helpless.
09:31Aberdeen have been hapless.
09:33It is Dundee 2.
09:36Aberdeen 0.
09:37And that is the least.
09:39The home side deserve.
09:50Steven Presley's name rings around Dens Park.
09:55As he perches on his chair.
10:02Guinness Walker doesn't ask to get that in.
10:06Arms strong.
10:08Under pressure.
10:09Dundee clear.
10:11Breedle.
10:13Re-gathers for Aberdeen.
10:16Hopeless ball.
10:18Jamal Asanya.
10:19Not sure who he was trying to pick out there.
10:23Has another goal.
10:25That one's better.
10:26Cadden.
10:27Off the crossbar.
10:30Aberdeen.
10:31As poor as they've been.
10:33Have rattled Dundee's crossbar twice.
10:35In this match.
10:37Oh, Asanya.
10:38Using his speed.
10:40Boots it into a dangerous area.
10:42Chris Cadden.
10:43Gets the touch.
10:49Aberdeen cleared.
10:50Airdre Wright's taking the touch.
10:52And he's so quick that he's...
10:54onto it straight away.
10:58Goodman clears.
11:00Oh, and Aberdeen at sixes and sevens here.
11:01Chance for Asche.
11:04Muller bails out Aberdeen.
11:06They're looking for an offside flag to go up.
11:09Marius Muller shakes his head in disbelief.
11:12But Asche denied.
11:14And it's just straight ball.
11:17Poor reaction from the Aberdeen defenders.
11:19Not from Hay though.
11:21Right onto it.
11:22Doesn't manage to beat the goalkeeper though.
11:33Armstrong.
11:35Helm closed down by Wesley.
11:42Hamilton's won it.
11:44And Hamilton finds Asche.
11:46Clever attempt at the reverse finish.
11:50Flashes by the post though.
11:54Ethan Hamilton.
11:56Muscling in to get the ball back off the shirt.
12:01It's a really decent try from Asche.
12:07Now Armstrong.
12:09Armstrong.
12:11To Lewis Smith.
12:13It's Smith taking it to the byline.
12:15Wins a corner.
12:25Can Aberdeen get a go back?
12:28And it comes from Smith.
12:29Away by Wesley.
12:31Sent back in by Marshall.
12:33Chance here.
12:34Save.
12:35And then Smith on the follow up into the side netting.
12:40Goodman.
12:41Keeps Dundee's lead up to.
12:47Initial corner was dealt with but Marshall's header found happy and he steered it towards the net.
12:57Owen Goodman hasn't had a ton of saves to make in this game.
13:03Makes an important one there.
13:09Armstrong.
13:11He's been the man to try and make things happen for Aberdeen but hasn't often done so.
13:17And Finlay Robertson breaks forward for Dundee.
13:20Early cross towards Asche.
13:24Clines the gloves of Muller.
13:27Could have had a hat trick since coming on Asche.
13:32His run.
13:34It's the better of Mill.
13:39Armstrong just away from Asche.
13:42Finds Malua.
13:43Back to Armstrong.
13:44Crucial foot from Dre Wright.
13:46But it's Toyosi Ola Sanya.
13:49Armstrong to the edge of the area.
13:51Chris Cardin.
13:52Can't get out his feet initially.
13:54Alan Forrest charges down the shot.
13:57He's claiming it was a handball by Alan Forrest.
14:03Play on is the call.
14:10Dundee are up and running.
14:11In the Premiership.
14:13For 26-27.
14:16And it is.
14:17As deserved a victory.
14:19As you will see all season.
14:21Joe Bevan was the hero.
14:22He terrorised the Aberdeen defence.
14:24An assist for Joe Wesley to open the scoring.
14:27A brilliant second himself after the break.
14:32And it's all smiles and cheers at Dens Park.
14:36Aberdeen still winless.
14:37On the road in the Premiership in 2026.
14:41Goal time at Dens.
14:42Dundee 2.
14:44Aberdeen 0.
14:46Stephen.
14:47Well done today.
14:48Your team were terrific.
14:49Just give us your thoughts after that.
14:53Well Tyrone.
14:54I think the bottom line is.
14:56I could run out of superlatives.
14:58Describing their performance today.
15:00You know I thought to a man they were incredible.
15:02And it's probably the proudest I've been after any Dundee performance.
15:07Since coming to this club.
15:09You know I have a vision.
15:10And how I want the team to ultimately play.
15:15And today was as close to that vision as we've been.
15:20An incredibly disappointing performance.
15:22I didn't recognise the team from what has been.
15:25What has been.
15:26Very good six games.
15:29We didn't do what we do.
15:31We didn't out fight them.
15:32We didn't out run them.
15:32We didn't out battle them.
15:33They done the opposite to us.
15:34And their front four set the press.
15:36And we couldn't cope with it.
15:37You know we had people that then.
15:40Went into their shell a little bit.
15:41You know it's hard to play for Aberdeen.
15:43They have to stand up and be counted.
15:44And we didn't do that as a collective.
15:46So I have to take responsibility for that.
15:48That's my fault.
15:48It's my team.
15:49My players.
15:50Yeah we were missing the heartbeat of the team today.
15:53You know when I signed Brad Lanz.
15:54People frowned at it.
15:55And you see Scottish football needs that.
15:57You need to win second balls.
15:58You need to win battles.
16:00And we didn't do that in the middle of the park at all.
16:02We didn't do it all over the pitch.
16:03The truth be told.
16:04Obviously as attackers we'll probably get more plaudits.
16:06But I thought the defence was great.
16:08I thought the midfield was great.
16:09And it gave us a platform to keep pushing.
16:11Keep putting crosses in.
16:12Keep having shots.
16:13And ultimately getting the two goals that we needed to win today.
16:16I think I was disappointed with a couple of the moments I had against Celtic.
16:19So I wanted to make the most of them today.
16:21Obviously set the tone with a good ball in for us for Wesley.
16:25And then as I said I had a couple of shots in the first half that I was disappointed with.
16:28So I knew when the one in the second half came around that I was hopeful that I was going
16:32to take it.
16:34Elsewhere there was a top of the table clash between St Mirren and St Johnston.
16:38Both sides really putting on a show last weekend.
17:09It's the battle of the Saints in Paisley.
17:12The battle of the entertainers.
17:14The two most entertaining sides on the opening weekend of the season certainly.
17:17St Mirren triumphed over last season's surprise package Falkirk.
17:21St Johnston came out on top of a seven goal thriller with Kilmarnock.
17:26Left back Declan John is available following a hamstring injury.
17:29He comes straight in to replace Henry Fieldson who drops to the bench.
17:33Six summer signings in Craig McLeish's 11.
17:37Simo Vallecari names an unchanged 11 for St Johnston.
17:40They've not started a top flight campaign with two wins since 2017.
17:49Richardson back to Ryan Carr.
17:54Joined from Ipswich, the Scotland under-21 midfielder.
17:58He finds John.
18:01Mochry plays it around Smith.
18:04Oh and then goes down in stages.
18:07Just a corner.
18:08Says referee Ross Hardy.
18:10Chris Mochry I think wanted a little bit more.
18:14Does he have a case?
18:16It's clumsy.
18:20Sula to Phillips.
18:22Out to Mochry.
18:23This is better from St Mirren.
18:25John makes the underlapping run.
18:28Mochry tries to find him.
18:30Phillips flies into that challenge.
18:33The ball comes to Mochry though.
18:35Hangs it up into the middle.
18:36The header from Ramos.
18:37Stewart with the save.
18:38And again.
18:39And it's cleared by St Johnston.
18:42Well how on earth have St Mirren not scored there?
18:46Phillips with the crunching tackle to start it all.
18:50Ramos picked out with the cross.
18:52That's brilliant from Stewart onto the bar I think.
18:56And then he gets up to punch the ball away.
19:00Diabate adding the extras.
19:08Holt just plays that out to Matthew Folds who now clips it into the box.
19:13Check Diabate up there.
19:15And well wide.
19:16And that's been about the best of the attacking opportunities for the visitors.
19:22He had to have a shot on target as we cross the half hour mark.
19:31St Johnston free scoring last weekend.
19:34But they found it harder to come by in the first half.
19:39St Mirren frustrating them.
19:43They've won the throw there though.
19:46Liam Smith tries to play it quickly.
19:48Well does that strike an arm?
19:50St Johnston have appealed.
19:51St Mirren get the ball clear.
19:57Well referee Ross Hardy is going to go across to the screen here.
20:04Has Alex Gogic handled that?
20:07Well his arm is outstretched as he tries to jostle.
20:11I think that's Sam Stanton that he's got a fistful of.
20:17It does strike his arm.
20:19It does appear to be in the box.
20:21Ross Hardy having a good long look at the monitor.
20:26But this looks like St Mirren are going to be punished.
20:32Penalty.
20:35Ross Hardy has made up his mind.
20:38Alex Gogic is penalised and St Johnston have a chance from the spot.
20:46It's Jamie Gullin with a chance to put the Perthshire Saints ahead.
20:51And he's missed.
20:52Jacob Chapman with the save.
20:53And Gogic on the rebound.
20:56And he stops it even from going behind for a corner Alex Gogic.
21:00But Jacob Chapman is the hero.
21:03And he's certainly enjoying it.
21:06Well did Jamie Gullin just make it too obvious where he was going there?
21:13Craig McLeish watching on in rather a big jacket for the 8th of August.
21:17But the condition is not the best here in Paisley.
21:22St Johnston get it out to Matthew Foulds.
21:26Oh that's so close.
21:28He just tried to pick out the bottom corner.
21:32And it's agonisingly wide.
21:35They just passed up the glorious opportunity from the spot.
21:40And they missed that one as well.
21:46Encio with the header.
21:49Both sides trying to play attractive football.
21:52But sometimes the best option is to lump it in.
21:55St Mirren have gotten in behind.
21:57Jake Young he's only just on as a sub.
21:59The ball behind him.
22:00And he fires wide.
22:04Cech Diabati doing just enough to put him off.
22:06Jake Young who's hurt himself in the process.
22:10He showed good pace and took a good touch.
22:14But he didn't have the composure in the end.
22:17To pick out the back of the net.
22:19It remains goalless.
22:23Logan Chalmers.
22:25Crosses to the back post.
22:27Headed away by Richardson.
22:30Gullin with the back heel to find Foulds.
22:33St Johnston piling on the pressure.
22:35Gogic heads away.
22:37Out to Diabati.
22:39Rhys McAleer fancies a pop from distance.
22:42And Jacob Chapman.
22:44Always knew that one was going wide.
22:47Just fizzing along the surface.
22:51The rain-soaked surface.
22:53Always going wide though.
22:57McLeish watching on.
22:58Trying to make it.
23:00Two wins from two.
23:03Luke Thomas inside to Phillips.
23:07John round the corner.
23:08Samuel Ramos will chase it.
23:09Looked like a lost cause.
23:11But he's won his side.
23:12A penalty.
23:14Toby Stewart pleads his innocence.
23:18But has he caught St Mirren's Spanish midfielder here?
23:22He's going away from goal certainly.
23:27But it does look like the knees of Stewart.
23:31Just catch Samuel Ramos.
23:35St Johnston.
23:36They miss at one end.
23:37They might be about to concede at the other.
23:41It's Killian Phillips.
23:42It was his double who secured all three points against Falkirk.
23:48Can he add to his tally for the season?
23:52It'll be a short run up.
23:55And he sends the goalie for the wrong way.
23:58Killian Phillips makes it 1-0 to St Mirren.
24:03They punish St Johnston to full effect.
24:07And it's a tale of two penalties in Paisley at the moment.
24:13What a start to the season for Killian Phillips.
24:16And possibly for St Mirren as well.
24:21Jacob Chapman the hero at one end.
24:24Killian Phillips at the other.
24:31To the back post.
24:32Check to Yabate with the header.
24:34And it crashes off.
24:35Jacob Chapman's right hand post.
24:42The advantage play.
24:43Jadon Richardson bringing it away for the ball.
24:46The hosts up against Mitchell.
24:48He goes down.
24:50Will there be a third penalty in this game?
24:52No, there won't.
24:55Ross Hardy just pointing for the goal kick this time.
25:03A bit of pressure from Mitchell and Richardson hits the deck.
25:10St Mirren give it away.
25:13And there's not long left here.
25:15And they might have given St Johnston the perfect chance to equalise.
25:18Here's Louie Lloyd.
25:19Oh, the touch is poor.
25:21And St Mirren managed to scramble that one away.
25:25A huge opportunity for St Johnston.
25:29But Lloyd not clinical at all.
25:38St. Mirren might try and hit on the break here.
25:40Jake Young in behind again.
25:41The flag stays down.
25:43Zach Mitchell trying to get back against Young.
25:45He twists.
25:46He turns.
25:47He gets the shot off.
25:48And Stewart tams behind.
25:51That would have been all three points sealed.
25:54It might be enough in any case.
25:57Young did well there to get the shot away.
26:00Stewart down quickly.
26:03Time running out for St Johnston.
26:05The ball given away.
26:07And the shot at goal.
26:09Stewart was off his line.
26:10It's always going wide.
26:12And that will be that in Paisley.
26:16A team written off by many before a ball was even kicked.
26:20Two weeks in.
26:21They have two wins.
26:23Another three points to the tally for St Mirren.
26:26After Killian Phillips' penalty.
26:28It finishes in Paisley.
26:29St Mirren won.
26:30St Johnston nil.
26:33Delighted for the group.
26:34Really good win today.
26:36Hard fought win.
26:37I thought a lot of our performance was good.
26:40We just had to kind of add a bit more speed and intensity to our play in the second half.
26:45First half felt quite comfortable without really troubling them too much.
26:50Sammy's probably at one that he should score in the first half.
26:52I thought we stepped up a bit.
26:53Second half were maybe get away with one where it's a fantastic save from Jake and from the penalty.
26:59And then we convert our penalty.
27:01So it was.
27:01It was kind of a really fine margins in the game.
27:04But games are going to be like that for us.
27:06And we have to show that fight and resilience when you've got to defend at the end.
27:10But even just some of our energy and how we still pressed at the end and how we could have
27:13scored a couple on the counter attack as well was really pleasing.
27:16Yeah, you can say you are disappointed but we know the nature of this league and you know you have
27:22your chance you don't take it and opponent they will get their chance and they took it.
27:27So no no hard feelings or anything.
27:32We need to take our chances but when you look the game overall I think we played first half very
27:38good away 45 minutes.
27:40We saw some pressure you know from then we played the ball when we needed it and then second half.
27:49Yeah, it was a game of you know two penalties and as I said it they took them and I
27:55congratulate them.
