01:50It involved a proposed $1.8 billion compensation fund known as the Anti-Weaponization Fund.
01:57The proposal was designed to compensate people who believed they had been mistreated by the criminal justice system.
02:04But critics raised serious concerns because the arrangement also included provisions that could protect Trump and members of his family
02:12from IRS tax audits.
02:14That became a major problem for Blanche.
02:17Under pressure from Republican Senators John Cornyn and Tom Tillis, Blanche formally promised in writing that the Justice Department would
02:26abandon the $1.8 billion fund and rein in the tax audit provisions.
02:32That commitment helped unlock his nomination.
02:35But concerns did not disappear.
02:37Senator Lisa Murkowski said the country needs an attorney general who can check what she called the worst impulses of
02:45the administration.
02:46And Democratic Senator Dick Durbin warned that confirming Blanche would be a serious mistake.
02:52He argued that the country needs an attorney general above reproach, particularly at a time when corruption and presidential power

03:01Now, with the 50 to 49 vote, Blanche has cleared that final hurdle.
